called to tell me I was eligible to receive a government grant of $ 6000. wanted my name address which they had wrong on both counts if I could just give them the correct information they could connect me to the right department in order to receive my $6000. grant money.

Called one of our employees who is a senior citizen to tell him he had been awarded a government grant because he had paid his taxes on time and had no criminal record, and that he should call this number to claim his grant. When our employee turned down the call, the caller called back, which to me is the kind of predatory behavior of those scammers who particularly target vulnerable elders.

I contacted the FTC to make a complaint (Federal Trade Commission, https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/) , and they requested that if this group ever calls again, to gather as much information as you can, including the tel# they are calling from, a name, an address, how much $ they are asking you to pay, etc. The person I spoke to on the phone was very evasive, so I don't know if it's possible to get this info, but anyway, it's helpful to make this complaint.

Recieved the call and the $6000 grant offer. It was hard to understand the guy, didn't speak English well. I know these calls are bogus, but it was funny anyway. Just like the time share calls!  Any real American knows the government isn't about to just hand out money at random.

I Got a call from 926-543-2116 saying I received a grant for paying my taxes on time and having not filed bankruptcy in the last 6 months. They gave me a "grant approval number" and said I needed to call their finance department to continue the process. The guys name was "alex"

I called and gave them a completely different "grant approval number" and he still went ahead with everything. This guys name was "justin" and when i asked what his last name was he said it was "Alex". huh thats familiar!! anyway it was a total scam saying that i needed to go to my local western union and call him when i was in the parking lot and not to talk to any western union worker because they would charge me a lot! He said i have to deposit $200 and then at the same exact moment i will receive my $6,000 plus $200. I asked him why the government is issuing grants through western union and not the US Treasury and he just repeated his script saying that I have to go to western union. SO i proceeded to have fun with him and asked him if hes ever had anything stolen from him. He said yes, so I asked him if he enjoyed having things stolen from him and he said no. So i proceeded to ask him why he is stealing from people and how he can sleep at night knowing he is screwing people over. he got silent and didn't respond with anything but the same scripted answer "you have to go to the western union and call me when you are in the parking lot. So i told him I would go right now and that i was so excited and it would take me 20 mins to get there. he said he would be waiting for my call from the parking lot and im sure I will get a call back in at least 15 mins.

I called the real US grant site and they gave me this website to report fraud:

They gave me an address of 200 independent av. Building Southwest, Washington DC.

came up as unknown, same thing, government grant for $6000, horrible english pronounciation. I told them not to call again because I knew it was a scam. he put supervisor on the phone "Michael", I asked him the name of the government grant program, because there's always a program name. He gave me a number 202-407-9166 to call back and give my money # wz1027. I told him I was looking this up right now and that I knew it was a scam to get me to western union $200 that they could disappear with. He was insistant that this is legit. I told him not to ever call again and hung up. He called me back. I again told him to remove our number and never call again. He said if I hang up he's going to call back. I hung up. He called back. This time I just set the phone down and he hung up after a couple of minutes. I asked him if he really thought people are stupid enough to fall for this [***].

same exact thing from 202-407-9116....you would think the FTC or government would have done something about this by now!

I got the same call and felt the same way, they don't have their info correct, hard to understand the guy. How come this number 202.407.9116 has not been closed down yet.

Just totally read all these and stopped my husband as he was just scammed by the same people! Unbelieveable! Thank you all for the posts!

Thanks, everyone. I just received this same call with the same message. Person spoken with thick Indian accent. Gave me a grant number and asked me to call 202-407-9116 as soon as she hung up. Mind you the call came in as unknown caller. If the government had money to give me for paying my bills on time. I am sure they would just send me a real check and would not hide behind an unknown name/number. I guess they are still waiting for me to call back.

Just got this call, why they thought, I won`t GOOGLE it? And here I am on this site reading all your comments. Thanks a lot for shearing. OOPS, they just called again to find out, if I already called. Somebody stop them.

Just got a call from (926)543-2166 to give a call to the 202 number so I COULD COLLECT MY 6000  MONEYZ!!!! (?_?)

I stayed on the phone just to see when they would try to dupe me. The scary part is there are people in the good old US of A that fall for this.

I recieved the same call and looked it up on google as well, soooo sad!  This definitely needs to be reported as it is a scam and fraud...  Anything you have to pay to get money is not right!!!  If you have $6,000 then you should be able to just send me the moneny!!!

Same story as everyone else. I received a call from a man by the name of Michael w| very bad English saying I was selected by the government to receive $6000 in grant money because I have paid my taxes , no criminal record && I haven't filed bankruptcy. Something didn't sit right w| me because besides a summer job , I never had a job so I NEVER FILED TAXES! Before I called the second number to find out how to receive my "money" , I decided to google it.  I called the number and spoke to a John character who sounded just like Michael. Hmmmm. As I read from a report above , I gave him the wrong confirmation number and he could still open my "file". He told to me I could pick up my money at my local Western Union and to bring a picture id and $200 for a security deposit. The first guy I spoke w| asked how I would like to receive my money && I told him a check. I asked John why I would have to go to Western Union if I was receiving a check and he tried to cut me off and talk over me. I told him to shut up && listen! Lol. I decided to have w| this scam. After I asked him again && he repeated a script. I told him I googled the number he called from and he quickly caught an attitude with me and told me to do what I want , he doesn't care && he won't call me anymore. I thought it was quite funny.

I had the guy call me and say he was from the government and I actually gave him my mailing address.  After I gave him my mailing address he then asked me for the last four digits of my SS number, and I said absolutely not.  I asked him if he was from the government, then he would know my last four digits.  I hope my identity can't be at risk because of giving him my address??  I don't know how they use the information!

Same thing caller wasnt american and couldnt speak english well... phone #s were 2141519446 and 2012254100 ...

just received a call from this. non English speaking man.said I receive money for paying my bills on time(-Free Money) from the government $ 4800 name was Thomas Cook gave me your ID grant number of Tk 410 @ to call 3604500509 then John Carter asked me tell him what Thomas said I hung up then he called back and I'm at work where are you didn't say MAN I DON'T HAVE TIME STOP.DON'T CALL MY NUMBER AGAIN

had a call told I had a grant which I had not applied for but my person spoke american. glad I look at this site.

Received call said they were IRS.  The IRS does not call you.  They said I owed money tried to scare me by saying they were sending the law out to the house to arrest me.  Told him to send the law,he then said "I'll see you in court.So I told him I couldn't wait to see him face to face, then  he hung up.  THIS IS A SCAM!!!They use different names and badge numbers.  DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK IF MESSAGE IS LEFT FOR YOU!! THE IRS DOESN'T CALL.
