I received a recorded call  yesterday saying I was in trouble with the IRS and to call back immediately. When I called back I was sent to voice mail.  I just want to report this as a scam.  Thank You, Audrey

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for this.

The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone. The scammers use voice over IP lines (e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation). This is always against these companys' terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Therefore, report it also to your local law enforcement agency. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad or New Delhi. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to demand decisive action from the FBI, the IRS and other federal agencies against organized crime directed against American citizens from abroad.

As widely reported by local and national media all across the United States and warned about by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (see http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm) a tidal wave of fraud using Internet phones has hit the United States. Millions of dollars already have been stolen by criminals impersonating federal officers from the IRS while hiding in countries like India and Pakistan, where most of the calls originate. There seems to be no end of it in sight.

I have personally been targeted by these scammers but it is the most vulnerable among us that I am concerned about primarily. The scheme is specifically singling out those that can least defend themselves against these crimes, in particular the elderly. I am also worried that given the origin of these gangsters, the money stolen from US citizens may be used for financing of terrorism or other activities directed against the national interests of the United States. But in spite of this clear and present danger to our country and its citizens I have seen no action worth mentioning by the FBI, the IRS or other federal agencies so far.

As a member of Congress overseeing the law enforcement agencies tasked with fighting fraud and ensuring national security, I implore you to make sure that they act on these threats and are given all the necessary resources to target these criminals in cooperation with foreign law enforcement.

Bogus call. Bogus people. this is an open invitation to come to my home for full reconcillition of this so called problemm When You leave You will not be satisfied, but You won' be aware of the cause.

I got the same call today. Obvious scam, claiming to be IRS. Caller ID said Washington, DC.

Saying I needed a lawyer that they were from the IRS.

They claimed I would be handcuffed and taken away to jail and that my employer was going to be called to start deductions from my pay. The man on the phone was intimidating and threatening and he insisted he was a tax invasion investigator for the IRS. When I pushed on the IRS, he confirmed he worked for them. Clearly, these people should be prosecuted.

These are NOT workers for the IRS.  The are THIEVES in India or Pakistan.

The IRS mails notification and does NOT threaten you.

Just received the call. Didn't pick up and googled the number that brought me to this page.
A quick search on phonevalidator.com lists the number as a Magic Jack number. This confirms the theory that these low lives are calling from outside US with no regards to US laws.

Received a robo call from 202-506-8682.  Said it was urgent that I have my attorney call as the IRS has filed a lawsuit against me.  Per Google, number belongs to Anjunette Muhammad, an alleged tax preparer in Hyattsville, MD.  One google listing says he is licensed to practice before the IRS which would mean he would have to ben an enrolled agent but he is not listed in the national database of enrolled agents.  Called the number but got a recording to leave a message.  Recording was one with an obvious Asian accent.  This is a scam.  The IRS will NEVER ask you to send them money and will always do it in writing.  I wish they would answer their phone so I could have some fun and scam these scammers right back.

Got a call- message from 202-506-8682 about owing money to the IRS.  Didn't listen to the complete message and hung up.  When I called the # from a different # it went to voice mail, foreign accent to leave a message

Got the same call and I am so tired of these calls.  Why can't anyone do anything about these.

Received a 'IRS' call that I needed to urgently respond to before they took 'legal' action against me and to call Julie back at the number 202-506-8682 and at then end told me to 'have a good day'.

I knew that it was a robo call, in addition to the fact that I have not issues w/the IRS.

Upon a search about the number sure enough it was the scam I thought.  Apparently it is from a 3rd world country.  I'm not sure they know or care about the DO NOT CALL LIST since they are not in the US.

this is the third number they have used in the past few months......it is a scam.  Use to be a live person with heavy accent.

Thank you Rex. If everyone out here would take a few minute to send this letter to their elected representatives we might be able to shut these jackholes down. The US should bring some pressure to bear on the countries who proffer attacks on US citizens on US soil.

we got a couple calls from this # but not identify themself, just said from IRS.  They left the call back #.  I redialed the # but got disconnect after the 1st ring.

They do have people answering phone calls on that number, meaning they have people with that phone. Then, police can find them easily. I wonder why police did not take action against them.

Got a voicemail from this number.  Googled it and glad I did.  What a scam!   Thanks for the advice and the "draft" letter to get these jerks before they rip someone off!  The IRS always contacts you via registered mail, never by phone.  I hope this scumbag in Hyattsville gets his butt thrown in jail for supporting this scam.  Is there a way to get the media to warn people to not to be fooled by these jerks?
