They called and I let it go to voice mail.  Left a message for my daughter (who doesn't make enough to pay any taxes and too young to have go back too many years) needed to contact IRS because she was in big trouble with the IRS.  Was not an English speaker, obviously.  Needless to say...I hit delete!

My mother got a call from a man with broken English who claimed his name was Kevin or Calvin Brown. He said he was from the IRS and said my mother owed $1400 from taxes from 2005 and 2006. My mother is more than 80 years old, and has no income. He threatened her that if she didn't pay, she would go to jail or end up in court. Luckily, she did not believe him.

I got phone call that I have to call back to 202-506-9274 to talk with Kevin Brown since I have tax issue. If I won't call back, I will face to go to court. The caller could not even tell the detail. I told him I should receive the letter if I owe some money first (I filed tax every year and I did receive the letter when I had mistake for my paper), he just told me fine, do not believe, I would go to the court and hung up. My goodness.

We got the same phone call, he spoke in broken English (making it hard to understand his name).
He gave a name that sounded like Robert Collin and stated he was from the IRS and that there was something wrong with our filing (didn't say what year)
I told him he was a fraud as we have not filed yet.

Scammer left a voice mail indicating he was from the IRS. It was obvious he read from a script and spoke poor English. I could barely understand him and couldn't figure out his name. He did leave the phone number. I will report this to both the IRS &FTC.

As with most others here, a call from a scammer claiming to be "Steven Williams" of the IRS asking a family member (who hasn't used my number in years) "or her attorney" to contact him at this number. This is the second day running this jerk has left a message, only in yesterday's message the callback number was 202-506-9297. Incomprehensible in parts, but I wasn't able to place the accent -- at times it sounded East Indian or Pakistani, at time Eastern European or Russian.

I have received several calls from 202-506-9297 for Christopher Morey.  That's not even me.  The caller states they are from the IRS and not to ignore this call.  Please call Inspector David Bark at 202-506-9274.

I called told them to do a reverse look-up on my number that I'm not Christopher and when they asked my name I got angry with him and he hung-up on me.

Reported to FCC, and local news stations.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I figured he was a fraud when 1) he said he was Don Johnson from India with an accent. 2) IRS normally sends mail for few months before taking action. 3) do not ever wire or pay someone over phone if you don't vertify who and what. Don't bother calling. I got two messages on my phone but not gonna call back.

I'm so glad this website exists to confirm my thoughts about this guy who keeps calling me! I keep getting this guy with a thick accent calling from 202-506-9274. I knew immediately that it was spam so I hung up on him but he called back 2 minutes later and said, "Why did you hang up on me? I am from ___ (unintelligible words) and this is important phone call!" Uh-huh, sure. Most businesses or organizations usually don't have someone who could barely speak English and be upset about getting hanged up on, haha. I have a very good CPA who does my taxes. If there was anything amiss, he would have informed me directly. From the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing -- it states that if you get phone calls of this nature, ask for their badge number and a return phone number. They probably can't provide it but I would add that you will inform the IRS and the local police in DC to track his/her phone number down to verify the validity of their operation.

Don Johnson is a actors name. "Sonny" Crockett in the 1980s television series, Miami Vice. He also played the lead role in the 1990s cop series, Nash Bridges. LOL! Not the first actor (or singer, wrestler and other famous entity or known TV/movie character) whose name has been used and abused by this criminal element!

These people just called me as well. He kept asking for my wife. The guy was very pushy and rude (with a horrible accent). His name was David Park and told me to call his supervisor Kevin Brown (who also had a bad accent). I have reported it to the IRS.

202-506-9274 and 202-506-9010 are fraudulent numbers.

I got a call supposedly from IRS, and it was alleging I have evaded paying tax or made deficient payment. The person sounded a foreigner (with South Asian accent that sounded like a Philipino accent).  I told him I'm suspicious,  and I told him  that I'm going to call the IRS. He claimed he is from IRS, and gave me  two call back numbers: 202-506-9274 and 202-506-9010. He also asked me to speak to Kevin White, and to make it look legitimate he also gave me a file number (two letter followed by 6 digits; for example, FB019412).

I called the 202-506-9274, and asked for Kevin who immediately asked me for the file number. But again this person who spoke to me had a heavy foreign accent This person threatened me with an arrest the next day. He also claimed I was served an affidavit last year in December 23 or 24, 2013.

A frantic call to an attorney assured me that IRS does not work this way, and later a search on this website revealed that it was a fraudulent number. I also called Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484. The lady at Treasury confirmed that both numbers (202-506-9274 and 202-506-9010) are fraudulent.

someone call with heavy accent and claim to be from the IRS and that taxes were filed incorrectly and that do not disregard this message etc etc.  So I knew it was a scam and try to call back to get more info so I can post it online.  Unfortunately when i call back it would ring twice and then be disconnected.  Please make sure you report all suspicious phone calls and solicitations so other people will be aware of these scams

Just received a call from Kevin Brown......It was very entertaining.  I kinda hope they call back.  Would like to have a little fun with these would be criminals.

In my situation, he claimed there is someone coming to arrest me with a warrant.  I told him, if they are on the way to arrest me, there is no use talking to you anymore.  Wished him a goodnight and happy early birthday.
