I received a couple of phone calls from the are code 202  the individuals claimed to be IRS OFFICERS
saying they had a case against me for tax evasion for the years 1988 and 1989.  The gentleman that I finally spoke to was rude and hung up on me.

Confirmed fraud attempt (IRS script). This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). Just got a call from an alleged IRS officer, Andrew Smit, Badge #714211, saying that I had made a serious mistake in my income taxes, that my case was being investigated by an Officer Jacob Barker, Badge #714302. He gave the same number as he was calling from as the number for Barker.

I provided no information except to confirm my address. He couldn't even tell me my name, just that he had the phone number he called so I had better pay attention.

Because I was so openly skeptical (I have previous experience with the IRS and it was ALWAYS by mail--I told him when he said that I had been contacted three times by mail that I had not been contacted by mail, I may have said you don't have my signature on any acceptance of mail, at least I started to say that--he didn't ask for any additional information. I tried to call the number back and got either a busy signal or it disconnected after 2-3 rings. It's upsetting to get this type of call, obviously, until I then looked this up on the Web and found that in August 2014, this is happening to others. This is a scam.

Very funny, at the end of the threat of "... legal action against you" She asks you to call the number and says, "Take Care!"

I received a call at 11 am on Saturday Aug 30, Pacific time. A Pakistani-accented man claimed to be from the IRS and claimed that I had serious delinquencies in my personal taxes that they needed to discuss. To my protests, "Is this a joke?" and "The IRS transacts business by mail", he insisted it was serious and that at least two notices had been returned as undeliverable. He stated it was important for me to respond to the above number and that the officer at the number, who he identified as "Jacob Barker" was working that day. He said my assigned case number was CF47315.
After hanging up, I called the number and received a "voice mailbox full" response, which was repeated again that afternoon. On Tuesday I called again; the call seemed to be answered but nothing further happened. That's when I googled it as a scam.

This is the send phone call I got from this number in a few weeks.  The first time she said her name was Detective Julie Smith from the IRS.  Yesterday she said her name as Officer Julie Smith from the IRA (guess she got demoted)

Anyway, we all know the IRS does not contact you by phone only by mail.  There are no Detectives or Officers with the IRS (maybe an Agent).

    Keep ignoring these calls

My client called me and told me she received a call from a very
rude IRS agent saying she owed a lot of money.  She called me
immediately.  I called the number he called me back and told him
he is not an IRS agent and I just reported him to the fraud department
at the IRS.  He called me a f------ [***] and hung up.

I received a call from 202-506-9713 and he claimed to be from the IRS.  He stated there was a problem with a tax return and I needed to contact "Kevin" at 202-506-9774.  I told him I would NOT contact Kevin and if the IRS had a problem they would contact me by mail.  This individual then proceeded to use vulgar explicit language so I hung up!  obviously a scam!

got 4 calls from this number today...they left no message and now I know if they "were" the IRS there would be a message. The calls were an hour apart with an hour at lunch time and then the fourth call at 2pm

I wish I knew where they get their potential victim numbers...

even if  they leave a message doesn't mean they are IRS. IRS knows your address. They send you mail and not threat you. These crooks must be trailed for harassing people.
