Recd call that they are from IRS

They are NOT the IRS - they are in India trying to scam you.

They called me also, saying that they are from IRS

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I'm so upset, He stated his name was Steve and they have a warrant for my arrest for back taxes. I reported this to the FCC. He had a very heavy indian accent and threatening and yelling at me. UGH!!

the caller said i hadn't paid taxes (a lie), he has a warrant for my arrest (why?). he threatened me in a strange accent (middle eastern? pakistan? indian?). i told him to stop calling me and stop using terror like his brothers at isil, al qaeda and jihadi nuts do. he started yelling. i will report this scam.

Me too got a call from this number from the “IRS”, I realized  that this is a scam…I asked them if they want me to call the police ,they hang up on me. They called twice this week.  Today they called from a different number:
202-864-1611-“Officer Kevin Jones from criminal investigation internal revenue service “, again immediately I realized it’s the same 202 number…I didn’t answer, but found this on the net. Hope it will be useful.

Same situation as above just happened to me.  Please make sure to report any calls from this number or similar numbers to state and federal agencies.  Consumer reports are one of the main ways that action is brought against such companies and individuals.

The names used were James Davis and Steve Daniel.

Well I reported their number to the police and to capital one!

Treating me.

Called said it was the irs. Said I owed $3900 and if I didn't pay they would have me arrested w/I the hour... It was a scam

Call from IRS  Officer Daniel White auditing department. Asked for his ID and gave me Badge #982685 .
I had heard of these scams and immediately checked up on the phone number he gave me.202-506-9881.  

My mother who is a law abiding senior citizen got a call this morning around 7:28am from James Davis claiming he is calling from the IRS. His badge # 982685 IRS employee code # 9548 his phone number is (202) 506-9881. He claims that he mailed her legal document in Jan. 2014 but she never received it. So, I asked him to please resend it so that I could have an attorney take a look it but he refused. He said that she owes $5,800.68 which I knew right away that was not correct. The more I kept questioning him the more he got frustrated and upset and raised his voice at me. He has an Indian or Pakistani accent for sure and knew this was an IRS scam. Everyone please be aware and never give out personal information over the phone. Know your rights.

The guy called again from this number. I started his nonsense about IRS and tax fraud claims. I replied to him in Arabic. He went silent for a few seconds, then tried to chit chat in Arabic. This crook is obviously a Muslim, scamming us for his jihad.

Said they were the IRS. I just spoke with the IRS a week ago so maybe they have a way of knowing when people are dealing with them. Anyway, they told me my wife had an arrest warrant and I needed to pay instantly or she was going to jail. When they called back 911 came back on the caller ID and the man said he was a sheriff on his way to get my wife. Don't fall for this scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got a call regarding the same thing. I've had a couple calls identical to this before so I knew it was a scam... I asked him if he was a bank or a scam... We argued for a few minutes when he finally yelled at me saying "this is a scam ok!" And hung up. They are such idiots.

Been getting daily calls from the 202-506-9881 number all week.  They claim it is for tax evasion and that I will be arrested.  They claim to be the IRS.
