Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so. - RexIRS replies to jdsThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:

My house was under surveillance by Home land security. A warrant (# 00/121/3693) for my arrest has been issued and unless you answer my questions officers will be on your doorstep within thirty minutes to handcuff you & keep you detained for the next 72 hours. He did confirm my street address & zip code. I never got to the point whereby he asked for any personal information. He had a very heavy accent and the call kept cracking and the volume kept going up and down.

- MattOfficer Johnson called me too. I asked him if his IRS stood for Islamic [***] Scam? is this what his Allah and Mohamad taught his family and friends to do. Screams are what I heard on my speaker phone.
- AngelaI, too, received a phone call from Office Mike Johnson. He gave me the same Warrant number 00-121-3693. I guess he didn't google me enough because if he had, he would have known that I am in Law Enforcement. He told me that the federal government had been investigating me for Theft By Deception and when I asked for him to elaborate, he told me that he couldn't and that he could have the local law enforcement officers come to my door and handcuff me and detain me for 72 hours. He became agitated with me asking these questions and asking him to repeat himself because the phone line was cracking (he told me that it must have been my phone line, but I told him that I was at home and my reception at home is perfect). I asked to speak with his supervisor because I have the right to know what I am being charged with and he told me that he was the Chief of the Special Investigation Division of the IRS; he doesn't have a supervisor. I asked him a second time to tell me what I am being charged with and he told me that my reported tax earnings didn't match my actual personal income (I asked him to spell that one for me because I couldn't understand him with his accent...this made him even more agitated). My charges have now been changed to Tax Evasion. I also asked him why the IRS didn't contact me by mail because that is their policy and he told me that they attempted to, but since I didn't respond, he sent a special investigator to my house to have me sign the documents. I also asked him which taxes he was referring to and he told me 2008 and 2012. Unfortunately for him, I did not have the same last name in 2012 as I did in 2008 and my taxes were not filed under the name that he was calling me by. He then told me that he was going to ask me a series of questions that I had to answer and that if I did not, he would send the local police to my door. I asked him what police department he was going to send and he told me the local Sheriff's Department in my area (they close at 5pm and this was at 6pm). I told him that if I am being charged with a crime, I will not answer any of his questions without an attorney present. He then told me that the sheriffs would be at my door in 30 minutes. Needless to say, they never showed up. Please don't fall for this scam! I'm not certain what exactly he wanted, but I didn't answer any of his questions...even when he asked me to confirm my address (which was the wrong address anyway). I also asked him what address he was located at and he gave me a false address of 111 Constitution Ave, Washington DC 21203. This address does not exist either.
