I received a voicemail stating this was a final notice and that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me.  I called the number back and a man with a heavy accent  asked for my name.  I asked him who they are calling for.  He insisted I give him my first and last name. when I asked again, he hung up.  SCAMMMMM!!!!  

I also received a call from this number stating that it was a final notice of a lawsuit against me from the IRS and to call them immediately

I received a call from this number as well, stating the IRS was going to file a law suit against me.  SCAM!!

i received the same call and when I asked to verify my social security number with him he hung up on me and than when I attempted to call back he hung up on me again.

Same scam called my 97 year old mother and hung up on her.

Ditto-ditto.  I reported it to the IRS and the Treasury and they actually confirmed in short order it was bogus............and even thanked me!

I received a voice mail today saying this was a final notice and that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me.  I called the number back 202-621-0481 and after it ringing for a while a message came on that my call was being disconnected.  Definitely a scam after reading everyone else's experience and comments - thank you all for sharing !

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Received phone call stating it was the IRS and they were sueing me. Scam....

I too received a voice message regarding IRS lawsuit and to call this number, 202-621-0481.  However, the number the phone call came in from, per caller ID,  was 726-596-6524 - which is an "Invalid" number.

I received a call on my mobile asking me to call this number back as there was an IRS lawsuit against me.  I tried the number but no answer!  SCAM!

I received a voicemail from this number spoken by a robot voice.  The voicemail was to my desk at work.  There is no way that my work number is published in a phone book with my name attached.  The voicemail had ZERO identifying information relating to exactly who they were trying to contact.  The phone number does not show up as from the IRS.  Besides, the IRS mails you everything.  This is a scam.

This is one of the worst scam numbers. Please dont call this phone number. An eastern man with very abusive language will answer the phone.

Same happened to me not even an hr ago. Total scam!

I also received a voicemail stating to call this number back - last chance - IRS is filing a lawsuit - must call this number back immediately to discuss - call came from 413-484-5537 - - so glad there are sites like this to bring scams like this to everyones attention

I received a phone call from 726-598-6584, directing me to call the IRS re an impending lawsuit, at 202-621-0481. Definitely a scam!

I just got the same phone call, from the same number, with the following message: "Hello we have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS Internal Revenue Service is the reason of this call is to inform you that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you to get more information about this case file. Please call immediately on our department number 202-621-0481. I repeat 202-621-0481. Thank you."  The voice was computerized.  Needless to say, I did not return the call.

Just received a voice message from 722-597-6504 an hour ago to notify me that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me. The voice sounded electronic. The voice said to call 202-621-0481 for more information. I did not call the 202 number.

Based on a previous post offering links for reporting, I clicked on one of the links and eventually found a link for an online US Dept of Treasury form to report scams re: IRS impersonations. The link for the online form is below.

The form requires you to give your name, address, email address, and phone number. I gave my first name (along with my last because it's part of the email address I'm okay with sharing over the web), an email address I don't mind sharing over the web, and my cell number that I use for my business so it's publicly promoted. For the rest of the required fields, I just typed "City" for the City field, "0000" for the street address, etc., to be obvious about it and not have the government rep inadvertently contact another person.
