I got a call from them today. They told me I was going to get a $9000.00 Pell Grant. Gave me a confirmation number and the telephone# to call. I already knew it was a scam, everybody knows you have to actually apply for a grant, they don't come out of the blue.  But I wanted to string him along for fun just to see what he would do. It was fun to [***] with him for a while, he actually thought I was stupid enough to give him my bank account number to send a Western Union deposit.  Really??

SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM    Do not fall for this, please.

    A call from 000-000-0000 came.
They gave me a number to call them back with more information.
Said they were calling for the Federal Grants Dept at 200 Independence Blve, S.W. , Washington, DE 20201
Said his name was David Long, but sounded Asian Indian.  The other man I spoke w/ b4 the call was transfered to David was
also Asian Indian.  yOu could hear a lot of chatter on the phones in the background.
Said I was getting $9,000.00 from the US Government just bc I didn't have a criminal record.
Wanted to get bank info to transfer the money in 10 minutes.
Said I could do it by credit card, bank deposit or western union.

I told them they could mail me a check.
They said that even w/ a check, I would still need to pay a $200.00 fee to transfer and it was not someting I could mail to them and would have to be done by a GreenDotmoneypack bought at Walmart or Walgreens.
They said I could call them back at 202-621-0948 and arrange the green dot thing when I bought it for $4.95 for $200.00
I asked them to send it to them via email and PayPal, but they said it wasn't possible,
Finally he said he would talk to his supervisor and call me back.

They refused to give them info.

I did ask for info to send them the $200 they wanted in order to deposit $9,000 in my bank, but they had all kinds of excuses why it could only be done through greendot money pack.

At 1345 hour I received a call saying I received a grant of $9000.  All I had to do was buy a  green dot money pak card from Walgreens for $200.00, call 202-621-0948, and give them the numbers on the back of the card so they would know that I put the money on it.  This would cover the registration fee.  I was to call that number and ask for Alex Smith.   His code was PE219.  My confirmation number was AS125.  He's calling me back to see if I got the card yet.  I did not lose money.  But this is as current as it gets.  I hope others don't fall for this scam.

I received a call saying I have been approved for a grant of $9200 that I don’t have to pay back because I have paid my taxes and bills on time.  I was given a phone number of 202-621-0948 and an approval code.
I researched the phone number an found that it is a scam that others have been getting also.

Just received a call from an elderly gentleman who received this exact phone call. He went to Western Union as directed and thank goodness the lady working asked enough questions that she told him she thought he needed to talk to someone else before he did anything further. She gave him the number to my office because she knew that we sometimes did grant programs. I looked up on-line and found this forum and read him all the other people who the company had tried to scam. Thank goodness for a vigilant Western Union worker!

I had the same thing happen, however just losing my job, being a full time student, and just filed for my FASFA for my PELL grant, I thought well maybe. This person is using Green Dot MoneyPak as a scam to get college students to claim $9,000 grants from the Federal Reserve Bank. I WANT MY $200 BACK. I was convinced because they had a "U.S Federal Code" for my bank to use and they told me to go to my bank with the Green Dot card and the bank would give me the $9,000 plus the $200 I used to put on the card. The Federal Trade Commission has been notified and I am going to have someone's a**.
