I keep getting calls from this number 202-629-9019 and being threatened that it is urgent and that my lawyer should call them.  They are saying they are the Federal Tax Investigation Department, but do not leave detailed information.  IRS has not written or notified me of anything.  Who are these people?

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers in both Canada and the USA.
USA tax payers should read this:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

    Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

I live in Oregon and I have been getting the same phone calls and he is saying his name is Patrick and I did a reversal on the number and it belongs to a Leonard Adams in DC. He says the same exact message on my phone and made me panic till i was sick trying to figure out what I did wrong.  I read all the info and it has calmed me down very much.

This number called me and actually left a voicemail pretending to be the IRS! I called them back twice, had 2 different people answer the phone, both weren't the man that left the original message on my machine. Seems like a fair amount of people are co-conspiring this broad scam. I was contacted in ATL, GA but the phone number is a DC number. I called the Atlanta police department to report the scam and also called the DC police department. The DC police said that I had to call my police department for wherever I live and that the detective down here then calls the DC detective and they open a case together. So if you're getting calls from this number you should call your local PD and report it so they can add your location on to the map. I'm sure plenty of people are actually falling for this and giving these crooks money so please report to your police and let's stop these thieves!

Got called by this same number (202-629-9019). The guy claimed to work for the IRS, kept informing me he worked for the government in Washington, DC, told me that I had to stay on the phone the entire time, go to my bank, withdraw all of the money from my account and moneygram it to the IRS, a bank statement or paystub isnt sufficient. Complete scam.

I just got a call from this number with a female recording stating I should call immediately as there was a problem with my returns. As of today I haven't even filed the 2015 return. These idiots are now calling in CT. Hope nobody falls for this.

Got a gramatically incorrectly phrased voicemail recording telling me I must call back about a matter of great urgency in an Indiam sounding woman's voice.  The last time I got a call like this I fought with a man on the phone for ages and my blood pressure went way up; now I know better.   Luckily I know better than to give up any info to anyone that calls me.

Same message as Stella.  Listened to it three times, just to make sure it was fake. Caller ID was "unknown"

Got a call short while ago, seeing DC I figured it was one of the candidates. On picking up, hear a heavy accented man "John Miller" from IRS. I went "Oh really!" kinda took him by surprise. I asked for his employee id - "C4123" which office - "DC". Office address...? At this point he finally caught up and said why are you asking all these questions? This is a "legal call", you can go to jail!

I started laughing and hung up. He calls back again! Good god! I told him to go arrest me and that I have his number, calling the cops right now. He mumbled some kind of veiled threat and hung up. Feel like killing these morons!

Received a message today requesting that I return their call to 202-629-9019 due to IRS problems, and a chance I would be arrested and go to jail. The guy who left the message also said that I needed to call back As Soon As Possible to avoid further criminal charges.
