- NEalv replies to Lauren nemcovskyI just received same call---that I qualified for $9k grant for paying my bills on time and for having a good background record. What's even more weird the lady was able to confirm ALL of my personal information--email, address, etc. How do they know this??? I knew it was a scam, but I listened anyway to see how far they went... to my surprise, they know a lot about me.
Anyway--Thank God for the internet, I was able to confirm this craziness--- - Ashley replies to tweet. This lady called me telling me I got selected to get a United States grant from Washington, D.C. - CarmenI received an "UNKNOWN" call on my cell this AM from a "Marshall Lee from the Government in Washington, D.C..". His accent was so heavy that I could not understand the amount of money offered despite being repeated multiple times... (Sounded like "one five hundred"). The money was part of a "government grant" and I was to call 202-657-6443 to claim funds by giving them [unintelligible words] ID# WG1015. I was very skeptical from the beginning and asked several questions: his Employee ID# 1075, Nationality: "China" despite his accent distinctly Pakistan/ India/ Middle Eastern-- and when I called him on it, he vehemently denied being "from Pakistan"... I asked to be transferred to another operator who I could understand (VERY noisy background): he would not; I asked for a manager: again, No. He told me if I doubted him to go to the website: www.obamagrant.net (of course, this doesn't exist...a government site would end in .gov or .us, etc.). Finally, I asked to be transferred to the 202-657-6443 number. He couldn't/wouldn't do that, stating he was "the Notifier" and I had to call the number to get the other information. I ended the call, but my SPIDEY-SENSES were SCREAMING SCAM!! He was not rude, just VERY insistent.

- Carmen| 1 replyI JUST received a SECOND call from an "UNKNOWN" number and the caller identified herself as "Bella from the U.S. Government Department of Treasury". She had a heavy accent, but her words were understandable. She stated that my name had been randomly chosen to receive a Grant of $9000.00 to be used for whatever I needed it for. All I had to do was call 202-657-6443 and speak with the "Common Manager, who is the only person authorized to release the funds". I needed to call immediately and give them the ID# "double G1015"... (She repeated it the same way 3 times until I questioned, "WG or Double G"...she replied, "double G...[PAUSE] the first one... W like water G like Girl"). ID# WG1015 (same as previous call), this time she instructed that after I gave the "Common Manager" the ID code, he would verify my eligibility and I would have to call the 202-657-6443 number back in 10 minutes. Caller was very polite.

Just in case you did not read her answer, or get more ... um ... interesting phone calls, keep reading ...
Things to believe:
• There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
• If it sounds (or looks) too good to be true, it probably is.
• You have not won big bucks from a benign benefactor, a pot of pesos from PCH, dinero from a doctor, a car from a caller, or a grant from a gracious government <<<<<<<<<
• The tooth fairy really does not exist
• Everything you read on the internet is not necessarily true.
• It is illegal to ask for money for a loan or prize, before awarding the loan or prize!
• "Free Trips" are loaded with mandatory & costly extras, and you usually must give them your card number after listening to a loooong spiel at a hotel.
• Microsoft or one of their agents did NOT cold call you to fix your computer.
• The moon is not made of green cheese.
• The IRS will snailmail you, rather than phone you, if there is a problem.
• Jackalope milk is not an aphrodisiac.
• If you "green dot", MoneyGram or Western Union money to a scammer, the money is gone.
• You should beware of Greeks bearing gifts, specially if the gift is a wooden horse with termites.
• 876 is NOT your lucky number, and it will cost you money to call that area code!

This one was from "Gladisk" (very heavy, hard to understand accent) from "US Government Grant Department". I have been selected to receive $9000.00 in grant money! My Grant ID # WG1021 and she verified the spelling of my entire name, and address and included zip code! She wanted me to verify my age, but I refused. She gave the same number to call 202-657-6443. At this point, I told her that this was my 3rd call today and I knew this was a scam! She became very defensive and argumentative, insisting that I call the number to prove that it was not a scam. I countered her arguments with info from the previous calls and she finally said goodbye!
