Received a call from a person who states his name is Michael Morre at extension 131 stating I would receive a Free Grant from the government tax free but needed to put in a security deposit on a Green.moneypak card that you can purchase at WalGreens or WalMart for $4.95 they call this number back or (202) 684-6771 and ask for Michael.  He would want the number on the back of the card to verify the deposit then provide me with a AMT# that could be loaded onto the card.

I asked if there was any paperwork that would need to be signed or sent to me and of course his reply was no just get the card, deposit the money and call me back.

This person had a very heavy accent which made it difficult to understand everything he was say.

    It is a scam.
The government does not offer grants to individuals for personal use.
It is a scam ran by off shore con artists to trick you into sending unrecoverable money to them, you get nothing in return.

The only legitimate avenue for government grants is through www.grants.gov which is the official US government webs site for grants.
    From their FAQ concerning fraud:
    http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/support/general-support/grant-fraud.html

    Please note the following:

No government grant-making agency will make phone calls; send email or letters to solicit money or personal banking information from a potential grant recipient.
There are no processing fees for federal grants.
Federal grants are not issued for personal use, but are intended for institutions and non-profits to carry out projects with a public purpose.
Know who you're dealing with on the web.  Scam artists will often post a website with a name similar to a legitimate site.
If you have provided personal banking information to anyone claiming to be associated with a Federal grant agency, call your bank immediately to prevent unauthorized access to your account.

If you receive a call, mail, email, FAX, or any other form of communication soliciting you for a grant, STOP.
    It is a scam.
    Report it to the FTC:
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0113-government-grant-scams

File a complaint with the FTC. If you think you may have been a victim of a government grant scam, file a complaint with the FTC online https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ , or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. Got a call from unknown called.  Was told that I got a grant from the government because I have filed my taxes and have not declared bankruptcy.   They asked for someone else and I told them that I did know  that person and asked if I could still get the money.  They said, they would change the name to mine.  Also they asked how I would use the money, I told them that I was not a citizen so I wanted to go back to my country.   The woman  with a very heavy foreign accent told me that that was covered too under the grant.  Gave me an approval number which I was not supposed to share with absolutely anybody until I got the money.   Then asked me to call the Treasury supervisor at 202-657-6709.  I also put on a heavy accent when talking with the scam artist and kept on asking for different "stupid" things and she kept on telling me that it was covered.   The only thing I regret is wasting my 15 minutes on the telephone because I played the game on them....they thought they had a victim.
When I asked the foreign person where she was calling, she told me from Washington, the office of the treasury.... Please never give them your right address or your right name during their call. -- If something is too good to be true, it is definitely too good to be true...it is a scam!!!!

202-657-6709 called and spoke with the same heavy accented lies that everyone else is experiencing - paid taxes on time and no criminal record etc...this is happening as of these dates: 9/22/2014-9/29/2014.  How they get our numbers is beyond me, unless they are randomly dialed.  I will call them out on it next time, but until then something needs to be done about it.
