We get several calls from this number to our land line every day.  Caller ID shows "I_R." We never pick up, and there's no message.

Got a call -- no message -- yesterday.  There have been many calls with different numbers from Washington DC lately.  I'm beginning to wonder if they're just changing their number.

I receive no less than two calls each day from this or affiliated numbers and have NEVER ever received any message. The common numbers are 202-674-86XX. I come from the olden fays wheb businesses had a Centrex system or at least a listed number with additional lines following e.g. 202-664-8621, 8622, 8623, etc. Often there were no m consecutive numbers used for "dialing out."
I haven't lived in this area long so I can't be certain tbe following convention was used for DC phone numbers, but first is the area code, duh!, 202 which identifies the area wherein the telephone number is located. Next is my favorite--the exchange which is the first two mumbets of the prefix. When telephones were attached by a cotd to a telephone jack in the wall and a line went from the jack to a local cable which went to an exchange. In more gentile days people would day Greystone 6-XXXX.  The exchange revealed the neighborhood wbere the phone waaocated
The number following is the physical cable to which that line was attached.  The last four odentofied the line that terminated in your Burnt Orange Slimline or Pretty Pink Princess.
So perhaps our mystery callers are in tbe "Mount Vernon" exchage and mignt someday leave.tne following message. "Hello? I'm calling from area code 202 MOunt Vernon 4-8621. Please call at your convenience to claim your brand new 2018 Ford Mustang. And please ne ready to specify your choice of color. Have a wonderful day!"
Yeah, right.

I get a call from this every couple of days, never leave a message. Washington, DC has a lot of numbers that do this. Hard to block if it's always changing.

I'm wondering if this is the IRS.

It's India's IRS, and a scam. The 202 area code is synonymous with overseas crooks claiming to be from the IRS, or offering phony grants. Pay no attention to threats or offers.

Same as db writing above. Getting more from "202" lately, and no one leaves a message. Answer phone with silence and they hang up.

Called my landline at 8:42 this morning. I.R. is using several phone numbers and people have commented elsewhere  that I.R. is a fund raising scam. In at least one case they were pretending to be fundraising for the DNC.

Receiving calls pretty much every day, usually morning, with 'new' DC number--or more often. No messg. I haven't picked up but have blocked every one that has arrived...someday they'll tire! 😉
I figured it was political surveying, but it could be anything...even perhaps dialed remotely from somewhere else, I believe.

Callers using the "Name" I_R are calling from multiple shown phone#'s.  They represent the "Democratic Party", and are nothing more than Telemarketers.  If you do NOT have a land-line blocking system, you probably will NOT be able to block them by Name, only by Number ... which Number changes all the time!!!  These callers are the SCOURGES of the EARTH!!!

This call keeps reoccurring morning until night and I never pick up.  There seems to be no regulatory body which can control this type of thing, not only with this number but other numbers, such as those that seem to be local but are not.  This is what deregulation looks like:  free reign for crooks

The caller ID on this number says "I.R.," and I'm getting calls from it daily. I never pick up. They never leave a message. I see others saying that the number changes, and that may be happening here, too, but this is the first time I've checked the actual number. All the other times I just have noticed the caller ID name. Super annoying!

It's the DNC, looking for contributions. They use robocalling, so no messages are left.

This number called and I called it back.  The message said they were calling for fundraising purposed, there is no one who can take your call right now, they the call disconnected.

This person keeps calling early in the morning and again at 5 everyday
