- Professor ScottGot a similar call from this number with caller identifying himself as "Officer" John Connell from the Department of Legal Affairs of the US Treasury who said that it was urgent that I call him back as a legal action was beng taken against me. This person wanted me tro call back at 202-684-6584 but before doing so, I googled that number to find out who it belonged to and received severeal sites that all said the same thing, i.e., it was a sam call and when they confronted the caller with it they were either hung up on, or the number proved to e a robot, o there was no ability to reconnect. When one caller told the person who called from this number (202-684-6584) that they had contacted the US Treasure, they were immediately hung up on. I am glad that I did take the time to do research on this number as the caller, incidentally, called me at my office (I teach at a major University on the west coast) at 4:15PST which would have been 7:15pm in the Washington DC Area Code. As the previous party above indicates, had I not googled this before calling the number back I would have been badly shaken as, btw, I have been filing my tax returns thrugh H&R Block for past eight years with no problems from IRS.

- LauraTwo missed calls from this number yesterday. I answered it this morning and a man with a foreign accent said he was from the IRS and needed to talk to my husband about a private financial matter. My husband could call him back any time day or night. Definitely not a government office! My husband will not be calling him back.
- PaulI had 4 calls today asking gor my wife. He said he was with the IRS and his name is John Smith. Clearly he sound like he was from India.

- PchenThis number showed up on my cell phone with a plus sign before area code which often time denotes a computer originating call.
They were rampant last year and cooled off and now staring again.
Tenacious.
I declined call and called back. A heavily accented Indian girl answered and claimed she is senior agent . I laughed and hanged up.
These are poor innocent telemarketing operators who have a script designed by people who knows American fears of the IRS.- Caller: U.S. Treasury

- Sam LGot two calls from these jokers in the same day; one asked for me the other for my wife. I had a little fun with them, asking to repeat their names, numbers, etc. When I read back the phone number I used expletives not appropriate for this board :). I then called the number back and the lady told me that there was litigation against me and asked me for my lawyers name and number. I told her that I was a lawyer (I'm not) then gave her a bogus license number. I recorded the call on my iPhone just in case, then went in to my online AT&T account and blocked the numbers. Now back to work!
- Caller: Bogus - Says IRS

- Stinky Pete202-684-6584 Man with accent asked for my wife. Wouldn't say why. Said his name was John Smith (I should have asked him how Pocahontas was doing). Sorry I didn't "f" with him a little but they called 4 or 5 times in one day. Sounded like a Caribbean accent. You can call the number, someone will answer.

- TMACKI've been ignoring this number every time it rings, as I figured it was some politician looking for $$$$, as it came up on my caller ID, out of DC.I guess the wife had her fill of it, as she called me at work, and told me I owed back taxes, and a warrant for my arrest would be issued, if I didn't call this number back. So I did. A foreign lady answered as Amy Logan, with the IRS. Honestly I got quit worked up over it. Said I basically had two recourses. 1) pay up the back taxes, to keep it from going to court. 2) An arrest warrant would be issued........ Almost fell for this, until I she said this was my only options.

- HuntsvilleGot several phone calls as well. Did not return first 3 or 4 calls. Answered the call today. Asked whether I have a lawyer to represent me and that an arrest warrant has been issued. I hung up after she kept insisting that is my only option.
- San AntonioGot called multiple times today, 5/11. I feel if it was IRS, I would have received some type of written documentation. I never answered, and I am very grateful for the above posts. Basically, screw them if they can not take a joke.

- JoCaller claimed to be from IRS. I asked additional questions, and pressed for his name which he told me was John Smith. I told him that was an interesting name given his accent placed his origin from somewhere in East Asia (possibly India). When I mentioned contacting the authorities, he hung up.
- Caller: IRS (supposedly)
- LABeen getting the call for a few days now. My wife finally called back and gave the guy an ear full. She enjoyed it tre3mendously. Think I will do the same. Good anger therapy to yell and screem at someone once in awhile.

Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1-800-366-4484.
If your provider allows this, call forward the number here- Caller: IRS
