These unscrupulous people need to be prosecuted! I am on National "DO NOT CALL" list. The Virtual Call Center is typically used like this type of scum, and it should be taken out as well!.

Many nuisance calls from the 202, 301, and 703 area codes. I did not answer and no message was left. Just added this one to my block list on my Panasonic 250 block capability phone.

Called at noon on a Monday.  Left no message.  Caller ID said "Washington Call."  Legitimate callers leave messages.  This call is suspicious.

    >> the Do Not Call list is a joke <<

No.  It is apparent you do not understand the purpose of the DNC list.

The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.

The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities and companies with preexisting business relationships, but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).

The DNC list  is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
Its purpose is to stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.

The "Do Not Call List" is just one more worthless  government agency who could care less as long as they
    get a check.
If the government can SPY on US, they sure as hell could put a stop to this IF THEY WANTED TO DO SO !!!!!

Called the number back; it's the Republican National Committee. Non-profits are excluded from from the DNC list, but they are required to stop calling you upon request.

The caller said she had a "one question survey" that would take one minute. She did not ask if I wanted to participate but forged ahead with the "survey." It was a political recording followed by the same live operator asking if I would donate $100 or $150 to her (unnamed) organization. This whole thing smells like a major scam. Beware.

So the Do Not Call List works only for the law abiders and is no help with the criminals.  A lot like gun control laws, i.e, has no positive effect on the real problems.  Don't spend time defending the absurd and ridiculous.  People will think you actually look like your avatar.

11:05AM on 7/28/14.  Caller ID Washington, D.C.  Never give money to a political party.  When you do you will appear on a database that they sell and/or trade amongst themselves and will flood you with spam calls, spam main, and if you really err, spam emails.  You will never get off. They are all predators and the politicians they rent have exempted them from the law.

If you do answer, ask them if they've found Jesus and engage them in a long proselyting conversation.

My father got a call from 202-735-3879 asking for me stating that he was an investigator with the IRS. My father said "Ya right" & hung up on him knowing that the IRS would have contacted me via mail or at my current phone number. He said the person had a thick foreign accent & there was a lot of background noise as if it was a call center.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You've got to be kidding me!!  You must obviously work for the government or the IRS.  I would NEVER call attention to myself by writing anything to a government that spies on its own citizens or singles them out for harassment and persecution because of their political leanings and/or religious beliefs (IRS).  Until we have a leader who restores faith and integrity in a government gone completely devoid of Constitutional principles, FORGET IT!!!!

That said, my call from this phone number was received and not answered on 10/15/14, at 3:32PM, EDT.  Since I have no doubt that there is no solution to the problem of these criminal calls, I just don't answer the phone, anymore, without knowing who is calling me.  Thank God for caller ID!  When these people figure out how to spoof our personal contact phone numbers, I guess we're all in trouble!

Wrong on so many counts, including spoofing. These IRS scammers sometimes use spoofed numbers to create the illusion of coordinated action. They possess a small file on every number they robocall, in luring yours.
