I've received two calls from this number stating there is a lawsuit against my by the IRS. I'm not sure why the IRS would have a lawsuit against me since I'm not listed as the head of household. I believe this has to he a scam.

This an overseas scam. The IRS does not make contact over the phone regarding these matters.

I received a call from this number and it was a real person. He was talking in a Indian accent and I could not understand him. When I told him I couldn't understand his voice he does the typical "talking slower and over enunciate every syllable" but it did not help, I still couldn't make out all the words he was saying into a sentence that made sense. He hung up on me and I have been getting automated messages, I have since then put them on my Auto Reject list so I have the voicemails left halfway thru the automated message. Call the number and it just rings. Call back to back to back even.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back direction  (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). It is a scam they called me sayn the same thing and I called the IRS and the said nothing is wrong

How do you auto-reject them?  I get upwards of 7 calls a day from this number and have been for two weeks.

I have been receiving calls from this number for about 3 wks. It is not a real person, but a robo call. They leave a message stating they are the IRS and they have a lawsuit against you for fraudulent taxes, etc., etc....and to call that number immediately. This is a scam to obtain money from you, don't answer these calls.  I called the real "IRS" and they said they did NOT call me.....people will try anything to get you sucked in...BEWARE !!!!

I have been receiving a "recorded" message stating that I can face a law suit for non compliance if I don't call this number back.  Problem is that it is coming in on my cell phone a work.

I get a call from this Number at least 3 times a day. Claiming to be from the IRS.

Listen closely, do they really say they are from the IRS.  My call didn't!  They don't identify themselves. Has anyone called them back, what do they say then.  I knew it was a scam and never called back

I have received calls from this phone number numerous times in the past couple of months, claiming it's from IRS, if I don't take actions, there's a lawsuit against me.  I got a voice message again. This post is really helpful.  

I have received 2 of these phone calls now. Again, I know it is a scam, so did not call back. The IRS does not work that way. It's just annoying that they call.

I received phone calls multiple times per day. I called my cell phone provider and had the number blocked, so for the past two days I have received calls from an actual IRS hotline; however, the call back number for the 'audit department' is 202-810-9155. I'm tempted to call back and give a used Visa money card number to be a [***]. Guess I'll just have to settle with blocking this number too.

I listened to the message again ... no mention of IRS.  After this last call (I've been getting them for a couple weeks now) I did call (202.810.9155) just because I was curious.  It only rang and rang, so after 6 or 7 rings I hung up.

Thank you all for your posts. Gave me piece of mind. I did check the IRS.gov website regarding fraudulent calls. It did specify that if there is an issue with your taxes the IRS will notify you through the U .S . Postal Service, not via telephone.
