- William replies to Buddyit is illegal for any telemarketer, any debt collector, any charity to use fake Caller ID information.
However, it is not illegal to have no Caller ID information at all.
Why not ? Well... the telcos aren't exactly cooperative with each other sometimes at passing that data through or allowing lookups of the CNAM. Contracts are involved. - SusanI'm not sure what this call was concerning because it was a pre-recorded message that I'm assuming started when my voicemail picked up, but the last part of the pre-recorded message said to contact them to avoid being summoned to a grand jury or having to appear before a federal magistrate. Needless to say, I didn't believe it and it's obviously a scam.

- KevinI'm surprised they are still using this number for scams after 5 years. Is there no attempt to prosecute these people? My Google Voice number was called by these people. Said they were federal agents and this was their last attempt to contact me to resolve an issue by talking with a federal agent before going in front of a "magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense." If I had done something I was afraid of, I might have been upset by it, I guess that's one benefit of a clear conscience. They left this callback number, which was the same as the caller ID number
- Call type: Debt collector
- FredTReceived a call from 202-821-4239 stating they were a Federal Agency trying to collect a debt owed to the IRS. If I did not call back in 24 hours they would have a warrant issued for my arrest.
- Caller: FBI

- PennyI received a phone call from this number. They are impersonating the IRS and will claim that you owe money and will be prosecuted today if you don't pay. It's unfortunate that there are people out there trying to scam others. The IRS website clearly states that they will never initiate contact via phone for the payment of back taxes. These guys have a very thick indian accent, and use fear and intimidation to coerce you into paying them. DONT FALL FOR IT. The IRS website has a link you can click to report IRS impersonators. Report them and get it shut down!
- Caller: IRD
- Irene BorzI received a call from 202-821-4239 and it was a prerecorded message with an attempt to scare me. The person says he is working in IRS

- Be CarefulCalled me saying that I had to call a defense attorney or something. This number is a scam.
- WendellThank you all for sharing your stories. I figured it had to be a scam. Here's the text of the message I got by google voice in a creepy, computer-generated voice:
"To reach you to resolve this issue immediately and to speak to a federal agent call back number is 200 to 821 4239. I repeat 200 to 821 4239. Thank you. "- Caller: Federal agent
- tankI just got called with an animated voice saying I have to call back to avoid appearing before magistrate judge for a federal crime... Hmm!! I thought that they would just show up at the house. Why call??? stupid..

- joNot once, but twice I get a bogus phone call about my owing money for my taxes. Caller couldn't even narrow it down. Said somewhere between 2008-2012. To the tune of $4000 some dollars. These guys say they are officer so and so and are if I don't pay up an officer will be on their way to arrest me. I literally got one mowing the lawn when I took the call and I asked which dept would come get me could you have them wait a little bit while I take a shower. I was playing their game a bit as I am not that stupid. Their Asian/Indian heavy accents give them away big time. The guy at this number above told me he was in D.C, and I played dumb and asked which state that is. He said D.C. Again, I am not that stupid to give out any more info than they already had, but I am upset that there is going to be some unsuspecting person who is too trusting and pay them. Gotta get the word out. The IRS does not make threatening calls about overdue payments. In fact I don't believe they make any phone call at all. This needs to stop.
- Caller: federal government

- BobNo using an emulated prerecorded voice threat because their Indian and Pakistani accents weren't fooling anybody.

- KherI was called from a few numbers saying it was a last attempt before criminal charges. I was really confused about the calls. I called them back and it was some guy I could barely understand. So he hung up on me. If it was so important, why would he hang up? So stupid!
- Caller: (202) 821-4239 Washington, DC
- GeorgeThe people with a foreign accent used extremely racist and profane language when confronted! I do not understand why the US government cannot block these numbers.
- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- jmcneelyreceived call from them, stating they are with the US Treasury Dept and I should call them back, or they will turn over to a grand jury or other. One i do not owe the IRS Money. I went on the US Treasury Web site and clicked on the contact them, it gives you a form to file a complaint, since the do not call list works. I filed a complaint on the IRS Scam page. Everyone needs to do this. It also asked if you sent this person money.
- PhilIRS scam again, 3rd time they have called me. First time I screwed with the guy and kept him on the line for 30 mins. Then pissed him off and he hung up. Wouldn't even be a real pal and give me 24 hours to come up with the money LOL.
