This is a variation of the old and very tired "Microsoft refund" scam except they changed it up to say that you need to send $299.  The amazing thing is that sadly, Americans fall for these scams.  Received the recorded call immediately after a previous recorded "Microsoft refund" call.  Never call these criminals back and never answer unfamiliar calls.  Now days, unfamiliar calls are most always scam calls - don't answer.  Have now blocked the 202 area code.

Robocall stating that $299 will be deducted from my account unless I call to unsubscribe, blah blah blah. I called the number and put my end on mute, just to see if the call went to a creepy call center (ie answered by someone with a foreign accent and an American name with lots of noise in the background) per usual. It did. So, I have called 17 times now, with my end on mute, just to tie up one of these bozos so they're busy with me instead of scamming someone else. Eventually, they stop answering my calls and/or block me.

    Fact:
    • ANYONE who calls or emails you and says your computer called/contacted them is a SCAMMER.
    • ANYONE who calls or emails you and says your online server called/contacted them is a SCAMMER.
    • Windows Operating System licenses do not expire.
    • ANYONE who calls or emails you with a message about your computer having illegal activity, is a SCAMMER.
    • Apple will never, ever call you about alleged suspicious iCloud activity.
    • ANY Tech Support Warning pop-ups you get while accessing the internet asking you to call a number or visit a website, is from a SCAMMER.
    • Web Browsers DO NOT have the ability to determine and warn you your computer has an error. They can only warn you about a potential malicious website. A Browser is software that allows you to surf the Internet, not diagnose a computer or phone.
    • ANY Tech Support company that insists you need their services because of some error, outdated software or tries to convince you that you need to allow them remote access is a SCAMMER.
    • Nobody could possibly know if your computer or devices have an issue unless you tell them or gave them access.
    • Tech Support companies DO NOT call to give out refunds because they are "going out of business". In fact NO company gives refunds when going out of business unless they did not provide you with what you paid for.
    • Companies DO NOT call to inform you that your subscription will be charged if you don't call back, only SCAMMERS do that. If you have a subscription with someone, they automatically charge you until you cancel it.
    • Only a Scammer would want Remote Access to give a Refund.
    • 3rd party Tech services DO NOT include Email account repairing or password resetting, since they can not access the email server unless it belongs to them.

Please read about how Tech Support Scammers operate the scams and warn everyone possible about them.

Computer company left message that $299 would be taken out of my bank account if I wanted to avoid them taking my money from bank away.  Did not return call. Was advised by CLARK HOWARD not to accept any 202 numbers, among other area codes.  AVOID this number. 202-873-2578

I only caught the last of the message as it went to voice mail.  All I heard was I needed to call back.  Thanks to this thread, I did not do that.  I appreciate those offering this site so these calls can be investigated.

received a call at 12:47 PM saying that if I did not want $299.00 deducted from my banking account for some subscription I should call  202-873-2578 to cancel the subscription.  Caller never identified themselves, a female voice, most probable a Robocall, I figure it has to be some SCAM or just fishing for some information if you call back.
