I have gotten a few calls from this number recently and I let my answering machine handle the call. I just get a woman's voice saying, "Hello? Hello?" not realizing she is speaking to an answering machine, I guess. The Caller ID comes up as "unknown", but some research reveals that it is a number for the Winnipeg Free Press (I live in Winnipeg).

They have an automatic calling system and they just let it go until someone picks up.

Yup, just got a call, womans voice says "hi" then hangs up. weird!

This number has called my house 6 TIMES today and if it truly is the Winnipeg Free Press that makes me so mad because I live an hour and half away from Winnipeg!  I don't pick it up, I wait for it to go to my answering machine but they never leave a message.  It's so annoying and I am so fed up!

well, i got a call also, i thought some lonely lady was calling me up on a date. i pickup, dead silence. i hungup. broke my friggin' heart.
  lol!.. anyway, i don't cater to survey's,telemarketing or any other annoying calls that waste my time.

To briefly redo, multiple calls from same number, five in half a day.
Checking, I saw it was Winnipeg Free Press.  I called them, asked for a Supervisor, got Darlene.  I told her the above and told her to stop their auto dialer from calling me and that their actions were against the LAW.  She argued that they were exempt from the DNCL.  I told her to STOP calling me or (fill in the blank).  She relented and said i would be removed from the Winnipeg Free Press auto dialer.

I wish to note that the Winnipeg Free Press IS, and I stress IS, breaking the LAW.  The Criminal Code of Canada states that three (3) or more times of a repeated offense such as HARASSMENT, is Criminal, and charges can be laid.  Criminal Harassment.  The Winnipeg Free Press is breaking the LAW.   The Winnipeg Free Press is located at:

This 204 697 7001 is always calling my home number for 5 consecutive days now.  I guess it doesn't matter even if your unlisted my home number already in their automated call. Annoying.  WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Please remove my number from your list.

They are not breaking the law since they are a newspaper they are 100% exempt from the DNC.  They can call you once a day until eternity.  As for unlisted number they use a robo dialer using prefixes common to public knowledge and dialing those prefixes 0000-9999 so they get every single number.  As long as they get a ring it logs it into their database forever.  If you want it removed you need to call them and request for it to happen but it will not.  I have asked them a few times to remove me but because I have no proof there is nothing I can do about that either.

They call everyday starting at 7am till 9pm calling my cell and home phone number. This happens regularly without me answering. Harassment much?

This number calls and hangs up! If this is a sales call they should at least state their business

It wouldn't be so bad that Wpg Free Press calls for subscription solicitation...except... I have already spoken to them 3 times this year, declining the service.  NOW, they call and when I answer, they hang up.  Even if I was contemplating subscribing, this practice has me soooooo ticked off that I will never subscribe to the Free Press.  Reverse marketing if you ask me.  Definitely did not achieve their objective, unless it was to harass me!

Go away Free Press, or at least be there when I hurdle my sectional (couch) like an Olympic track athlete and run across the kitchen to get the phone by the third ring!
