Got a response to an advertisement I placed on CL yo sell my jetta and this was the number given.  Sounds fishy!

yeah its a scam for sure i just placed an ad on cl for my tv and got got an immediate too-good-to-be-true response with that number. scam.

I also posted an item last night on cl and got an immediate response.  I wrote back to them, and again responded immediately, demanding personal info for the "check."  I too feel this is a scam.

I got a reply for a Craigslist item from someone using this number and they asked for a bunch of personal info to send a check too. I didn't bite. Based on what I'm seeing here and what Craigslist warns about, I'm betting it's a scam.

I received one too. below is the email. just curious if this is just local scam in my area in seattle. sounds like it because they are going to pick up a whole bunch of my furnitures.
these certified bank checks are deceiving because they will actually clear most of the time but 3 days later the bank will take the money back and say it's a fraud. then you're [***] out of luck.

the amount of the item and the moving funds in which you are to take
your money for the item from the check after it cleared in your bank
within 2-3 days and have the rest sent to the mover via western union
money transfer or money gram for the immediate pick up of the item.
For your inconvenience,i will add $100 with the payment to be your
running around fee.I'm always a busy person and will not like to lose
this item .The information of the mover will be sent to you after the
check is received and he will be at your location for the pick up with
a signed note explaining that he will be assuming responsibility for
the item on my behalf. Kindly get back to me with the following

I just recieved an email from "Karen Promise" for an item I listed on CL. This is what she said:

Wow. So glad I thought to bang this number into The Google before replying. I didn't get a call, but I got email responding to my Craigslist ad selling a 1990 Toyota pickup with 200,000 miles on it.

It's a Seattle number, right? I'm in central Minnesota!

What I can't figure out, though, is how to they make any money. Sure, the check will be fake -- but what do *they* get out of it? Just a prank? Because though I won't have $1500,  I'll still be sitting here with a rusty old truck. What am I missing?

Just got the SAME exact email for a BULL -- I was thinking....your "mover"?  What are they going to move a 1500 lb. animal with???
