Scam.  Left a recorded message saying the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me.  Message was generic (didn't say who it was intended for, just "you", or any info on the nature of the "lawsuit") and told me to call them back at the same number where they would most likely "settle" by stealing my credit card number and/or bank account, and whatever other personal information they could get.  Naturally I didn't call them back.

I just received the same voicemail message. Sounded ridiculous to begin with and no doubt a total scam. The IRS doesn't operate in this manner.

And obviously fake scam call allegedly from the IRS. Computer generated voice on the message said "you" were being sued by the IRS.   No personal names were used. These calls have been talked about in the news. Everyone should be reminded that the IRS does not contact people for tax problems by phone. Everything is done by official documentation in letters only

Got the same IRS call just now. I didn't pick up since i didn't know the number and don't plan to return the call. IRS does not call people by phone. If I had time to waste, I would've tagged along to frustrate the fool that was calling.

Yep- I got the same message.  Suspicious right away.  The IRS does not operate this way.  They put a lien on your bank accounts and then negotiate!!   Think I will call back and jerk them around a little bit.

Didn't recognize the number. VM recording said the this call was the final notice from the IRS that a law suit is being filed. Gave a phone no. to call. Did not call the number. This call seems fraud and illegal. Thanks for your posts.

Two calls about 4 hours apart, stating that the IRS plans to sue me and to call back. Sounded like a scam. Wonder how many people fall for this. Didn't call back. This is not right. Can a complaint be filed with someone?

KInd of doubt the IRS would be calling me in Pennsylvania from Seattle, WA.  I suppose it must work with someone or they wouldn't keep doing it.

Left a recorded  message telling me that the IRS had filed a lawsuit against me.  They did not identify themselves but this was similar to another scam I received last year with a twist that the IRS was filing a suit instead of the FBI They  told me to call them back at the same number but I received an identical call with a different number 2 hours before this one. Both were from Seattle.  My wife keeps telling me to call them back and mess with them. Maybe I will

The recorded voice indicated that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me because I owed the IRS. I knew it was a scam when the vocie told me to call back and I knew that the IRS has toll free numbers and contact people by mail.  Later on got the same call from a different number.

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

    Just Me
I received 6 calls from this pre-recorded number yesterday and I took the liberty to call back because I was tired of being woken up (work nights!).  Some guy with an India or Pakistani accent provided me with the name Officer Shawn Black with a badge number (IRM2102).  He asked for my name and zip code.  I gave a fake name and zip code that did not match my registered phone number.  He proceeded to tell me that I was being sued by the IRS and that my driver's license was being suspended.  He told me all my credit cards are being frozen.  He claims I was sent several certified letters which is FALSE.  I decided to have fun and provided him with a few numbers also to both the FBI and State Attorney General's Office.  I told him I was tracing his call and informed him that I am a bounty hunter and have a 95% rate at finding people.  He then told me they would do another review of my records...to which I laughed.  Even after I hung up on him, later that day, I got yet another voice recorded message telling me that it was my FINAL notice.  If you are reading this, save yourself the trouble and don't call back.  Unless you want to be entertained.  These people need to get a life and go get a job like everyone-else.

Exactly!  The call originates from Seattle, WA but the number they ask you to call back goes to Washington, DC.  I did in fact call back and I pray I didn't compromise anything by doing so.  The scary this is, without ever asking me my DOB or SS# or any pertinent data, he was able to verify my home address (to which I denied being accurate).  I presume caller ID provided him with the info.  I want to punch these people in the face!
