Called My cell phone.  I didn't answer it as they could leave a message.  The message is one of those IRS scam people that says call us before we arrest you.

Robot call to home phone.  Same message as Andy's saying they received a legal petition notice concerning tax fraud against me.  Also said that I should call them "as soon as possible" before the matter goes to Federal Claims courthouse or before I get arrested".  I don't owe any money to the IRS and have paid my taxes every year since I began working over 30 years ago. Definitely a scam!

They called and left me a message that i was being sued by the IRS. I called them back.  The man gave me his name (Mike) and ID number (15026) and asked for my name so he could see why they called me. He said that a paralegal was trying to reach me because  I owe over $4,000 from 2012 and asked if I had an attorney. He said I was being sued for tax evasion. I told him I owed no tax. He argued with me and said my CPA should have told me about the iasue. I told him I didn't believe him and I knew it was a scam. He said to hold on the line while he sends an officer to arrest me and then he hung up.

Recorded message stating that there was a tax fraud case against me and to call back immediately to prevent me from being arrested.  Since I didn't recognize the calling number I didn't answer the call and let it go to voice mail.  My Caller ID shows the caller is Acording Northwest.

The calling number has apparently been hacked--either in the phone company's equipment or the customer's phone equipment.  The provider of the phone service is MCIMetro.  I found a number to contact the phone company but got no answer.  So I filed a complaint with the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission.  These scam artists have been racking up lots of long distance charges, perhaps without the knowledge of the actual customer.

How do you know all of this? Or are you just guessing? What facts do you have?

How do you know the number was hacked and not spoofed? How do you know they've "been racking up lots of long distance charges"?

A J might be thinking of PBX-dial-through. It became a huge problem in the late 1980s when fraudsters would dial into a company's telephone equipment, connect to an outside line, and then dial whatever numbers the fraudster wanted, often long-distance and out of the USA, and often when the business had closed for the day and there was no one on the premises to notice the call activity.

You got to have fun with these guys.  So I called them.  Got James Williams on the phone.  Said he was with the Dept. of Treasury.  So I said you calling from Wash DC?  He said yes.  Then why the Seattle phone number.  Couldn't answer.  I said name the football team in Washington DC, he didn't understand the question.  He hung up.  Tried to call back no answer.  Darn.  Bottom line the IRS never calls, they mail you letters.  You call them.
