Just hung up from this caller.  The number came through as 123 456 7811.  The person was a foreigner, possibly Pakistani or of that surrounding area.  He informed me that I had won $10,000 from the US Government.  He gave me another number to call back to get the money direct deposited.  The other number was 206 801 1730.  If this information helps stop these calls, then all is good.

    It is a scam.
The government does not offer grants to individuals for personal use.
It is a scam ran by off shore con artists to trick you into sending unrecoverable money to them.
They will say you need to get prepaid money cards, like Green Dot and load them with you own money. Once you give the details from the card to the scammer, they clean out the card. You loose your money, you get nothing.

The only legitimate avenue for government grants is through www.grants.gov which is the official US government webs site for grants.
    From their FAQ concerning fraud:
    http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/support/general-support/grant-fraud.html

    Please note the following:

No government grant-making agency will make phone calls; send email or letters to solicit money or personal banking information from a potential grant recipient.
There are no processing fees for federal grants.
Federal grants are not issued for personal use, but are intended for institutions and non-profits to carry out projects with a public purpose.
Know who you're dealing with on the web.  Scam artists will often post a website with a name similar to a legitimate site.
If you have provided personal banking information to anyone claiming to be associated with a Federal grant agency, call your bank immediately to prevent unauthorized access to your account.

If you receive a call, mail, email, FAX, or any other form of communication soliciting you for a grant, STOP.
    It is a scam.
    Report it to the FTC:
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0113-government-grant-scams

File a complaint with the FTC. If you think you may have been a victim of a government grant scam, file a complaint with the FTC online https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ , or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. I got a phone call from  234567811....stating I was one of the few in my area that the government approved for a $10000 grant since I have always paid my bills on time and never filed bankruptcy.  They didn't say that I needed to send them anything.  They gave me a code and a call back# (206-801-1730) so that I could claim it since I wasn't going to use my bank account.  I figured it was a scam but I wonder what would happen if I went to a western union after claiming the so called "code" I was given and the money really was there and I didn't have to pay anything.  I would be one happy camper.  I will never give any information to anyone that blocks their # or someone that I don't call myself and know who I am speaking with.  Its amazing how they can claim to be with the US Government and not get caught.  Hopefully they will stop soon.

I got a call from 1-234-567-8911 today claiming I qualified for a 10,000.00 dollar government grant. They gave me a call back number of 206-801-1730. I was to give them 220.00 dollars for processing. I told them I had no money but that I have a prepaid visa. Was not good enough for them. I have the option to call them back when I have the money. Than the money will come western Union. Straight up SCAM. When I asked the guy how do I know if this is a scam he quickly changed the subject and couldnt get off the phone quick enough.

    Fight Back
Was called by an unknown unavailable number stating that you could get a $10,000 grant from the US gov. to use for anything. You only qualified if you had great credit, no bankruptcy, etc. Had to call this number back 206-801-1730 to confirm. From what I saw after looking up this number on other sites is that this is a scam number used for many different types of scams. They also wanted a $280 security deposit, at this point told them not interested and hung up and paid to look up phone info. and all I could get was Male Gender and located out of Seattle Washington in Richmond Beach. There is no address etc. TALK ABOUT IDENTITY THEFT, I am sure thats what they wanted to do, why else would they want someone with great credit and no declared bankruptcy. I am tired of all these different scams and they wont stop till all of us start fighting back and doing what I am doing now by posting this on every site that I can find.

Thank you for this posting! I told the guy almost the same thing when he said I was "selected".  I work for the government in a certain profession. I know for a fact government doesn't randomly give away money like that...and we definitely don't make calls of the sort.

By the way, 206 is not an area code for Washington, DC.  Hopefully people will take heed.

This is the fourth time the caller has rang my phone. Sometime he said it is a government grant for $7,000.00 yesterday he said it is for $10.000.00. He asked which option I would like to to receive the money. Bank account or Western Union. I told him Mail. He said the ID # is XZ 2596 and the person I spoke to give his name as Steve Miller yesterday 03/03/15 at 3:23 P.M.
