collection agency,  refused to give me their name or any other info

This number called me 2 weeks ago, and again today for a "follow up". I only answered the first time because it was a Caldwell number and I thought it was a co worker. The person who answered only stated his name, not the company he worked for. (Shadiness hint number 1) Anyway, "David" called to inform me that I supposedly have a 5 year debt from an old Direct TV account. He stated that in their system it shows as being unpaid, and that I owe almost $300 and how would I like to pay that today? Do they think I'm so ignorant I would just give a company I know nothing about $300 right then and there? He also wanted me to confirm my address or SSN, which I am uncomfortable giving over the phone to someone I don't know. I told him that I actually had paid off that account 4 years ago, and I had the records to prove it. He still continued to insist that the Direct TV account has not been paid. So I told him if that's the case, I haven't received any information from Direct TV in the last 5 years, and I know from past experience that they are swift in communicating when you are late or miss a payment. I also told him I had not received anything from his company regarding the debt, and to please send me any and all information regarding this debt to the address they have on file. He said he would, and would call in 2 weeks to discuss "our" options. Since then I have not received anything at all regarding the debt, but I do have records on file from Direct TV and my credit report stating that the debt was well paid off.

I Googled the number after the call and found out  that the company is named Access Transmission Services, which to me sounds more like a car parts company. Again this company name was never mentioned during the phone call

This company appears to be the slugs I've heard about that buy old debts from companies and try to recollect. This can't be legal. I am having my previous debt counselor draft up a Cease and Desist letter to them immediately

I just got a call from this number and some lady said that their calling on the behalf of Sprint and I kept asking who is this and all she kept asking me for was my mailing address and I asked where their calling from and all she said was "if you have any questions please call back bye" I've never been with Sprint before so that right there had to of been a scam
