We receive these annoying calls and the people, if you have opportunity to talk to real person, are discourteous.  They have our number, but their number will not accept calls.  There needs to be some control over these scammers.

"Wireless Caller" says my caller ID. Gee, that explains everything! The idea of picking up and saying something like "Sheriff's Office" -- really cute, and it would work if you knew there was going to be a human on the other end. But if not, once again, you've just told an automated system that it has called a live number. As for "only pick up numbers I recognize" -- with friends and colleagues who have cellphones with area codes from all over creation, I hardly ever get a call with a number I do recognize these days. Luckily, I'm usually online when these jerks call, so I can normally check the number (on great sites like this) to find out if it's a known scamster even before the answering machine kicks in,

it has  always mystified me why people answer phone calls from numbers they don't recognize. If it's legit, they will leave a message. if it's Publishers Clearinghouse, don't worry.... they will come to your house with the giant check.

Pre-recorded message.  The first thing I heard when I answered was "Congratulations!", after which I promptly hung up.

Only one thing will stop these people. The next spree killer. National attention to a crime committed against millions of Americans every day.
So how about it crazy, spree shooters out there? Don't waste bullets and your big day on innocent people who don't deserve it. Get these [***]-eating parasites.

I've notice most of the calls happen once I enter my place of work which seems to be in the down
town area.  It almost never happen at home.  Though when I am driving away from my building in
the down town area here too I seem yo get back to back calls.  Also the ring tone has a weird sound!

Been getting calls from this Verizon Cell phone, they don't leave messages and I will never answer.  The number is unlisted and I get a CNAM of "out of area" from my AT&T service.

Obvious tele-scammer, adding number to my call blocker.  AT&T doesn't allow Nomorobo to be used with their landlines.

The caller ID was California.  I did not pick up.  If this is computer dialed and you pick up and do not even say a word, your number will stay in the cycle of re-dial.  If there is no answer, the computer re-dials about 3-4 times and drops your number.  Or at least that is what usually happens.  We can only hope!

I normally do not answer calls with numbers I don't recognize. Niece is in hospital having her baby, so I just picked up.

...and yes the you've won a cruise trip spiel started. I hung up the phone.
I do not believe it was a true telemarketer as much as it was a scammer. Too many of these type calls are spammers trying to obtain one's personal information for the intent of Identity Theft.
