12/21/15 9:47 PST  This is almost spooky!  As I was reading inCalifornia's report, this number called me.  Creep who came on line after obvious robo noise said hello several times, then "there is no message, will try another time."   Go ahead and try, but I'm blocking after reading previous reports.

Got a call yesterday and today. Both times it was a prerecorded automated voice claiming to be from the Los Angeles Feternal Order of police trying to act like a live person. Under the Patriot act, they are required to give the name, address of the charity at the beginning of the call. This isn't done. Their automated caller is a fraud and doesn't take NO for and answer. If you give them enough bad information they will finally say they will put you on the don't call list (for this year). I don't believe them. As far as LAPD is concerned - I DO NOT TRUST THEM.

Forgot to add that they call from 213-289-0798 and 530-204-5699. Try calling them back and see what you get.

Received the call from Loyal Order of Police for donations.  When questioned further, found out that this was a just an outside fundraising company, and that about 10% of the funds raised would go to the Loyal Order of Police.  Despicable charity raising practice

Aggressive "charity" scam.

BEWARE of cold-calls soliciting for "charity". A lot, perhaps most of these are outright scams, or done by organizations that donate only a small fraction of what they collect, and pocket the rest.

The San Diego Police Dept says: "Scammers often pose as charities and solicit donations for emotional causes such as children with life-threatening disease, wounded veterans, police and firefighters, natural disasters, etc. In many instances they use a name similar to a legitimate charity to mislead donors, e.g., “American Cancer Research Society” instead of the American Cancer Society. They are also more aggressive than legitimate charities, often calling you at home or coming to your door.  Keep in mind that legitimate charities, in contrast to scams, will not pressure you to donate on the spot. ..."

The Michigan Attorney General's office says: "The person who telephoned you requesting a contribution was likely not a member of your local police or fire department. Almost all solicitation by telephone is done by for-profit, professional fundraisers, who sometimes keep as much as 90% of your contribution as compensation."

Caller ID = California Call

Called, answered and said hello in obvious annoyed tone.  They just hung up  :)   Block them.  They keep changing their spoofed number.
