213-289-5544  Says "Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1, a non-profit" on its answering machine. When calling the phone number, they do NOT identify themselves until you select a separate mailbox. Is this operation legitimate or not, and what percentage of collected funds actually go to charitable works?

They have been calling for months. Because they claim that they are a "non-profit" fraternal order of police organization, they can call anyone regardless of being on the DNC! That, of course, is bs.
We no longer answer any unknown or "out of area" calls.

call them and they will let you take your number off the list with an automated service... just did it myself

You can call them and the machine allows you to remove your number from their list.  At last they have this option unlike the other sheisters.

I haven't answered but according to caller ID, they are relentless

This phone number is calling to do fund raising for the Los Angeles County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1. I have called the number.  It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions, help you donate, or anything else related to the FOP. Also, there’s information on www.cafop.org . Plus, you can contact them there with any questions or requests.
The FOP is doing a lot of really great things for LA County police officers and the people that call are trying to help them raise money so they can do even more good.

Who ever these people are they are scam. My caller ID said Career Institute 1-213-289-5542. I do not answer and either it is a disconnect (because a machine picks up) or they hang up (because a machine picks up) either way, they are working under more then one name, that says it all, SCAM. Do not call them, do not answer, if you can just report it.

I applied for a loan online and pretty much as soon as I pressed enter I have a missed call from these people. If you call it's an automated system that lets you remove your number from their list.

I don't know who or whom they are but if I don't know the area code that they are using I don't answer!

I keep getting calls from this number on my cell phone.  How do I stop them from calling?

If this really IS the LA F.O.P - why are they calling ME?? I'm in Alabama.  You would think if it's legit I would want to help a F.O.P in MY state?  They call while I'm at work..and leave no message.

Here is a perfect example of theft of your information within a National organization. There is someone on the inside of Best Buy who is stealing all our phone numbers and using them/selling the #'s

WARNING! This is a scam. It belongs to one of those so-called collection agency/scam. I bet you  money that all of you are also getting calls from a collection agency claiming that you own money or looking for people with same last name or name as yours.

Yes they just called and I'm feeling I am no longer willing to support them after one of "their own" gave me a ticket for being on my phone when I wasn't...even suggested he physically check my calling records on the spot and brought in my phone bill and log from said date/time of traffic stop which PROVES I was not on my phone.  The judge refused to look at my records.  Told me she didn't care!  That traffic stop cost me $400 for something I was completely innocent of.  So I will never support them.  They have my $400 to support them.  If I were to take that one to court w/a lawyer...It would cost me another thousand or so.  I was told to eat it and ignore it.  I no longer respect local law authority or our judicial system.
