They called my cell as a 'private number' so I didn't answer. The voicemail was for my mom. The lady said she was from 'LPS', that there was a refusal to sign for documents, and she had two hours call back to prevent further legal action.  A Google search of this number brought up scam/harassment caller.

They called me today.  She repeated my social and I refused to confirm it.  Apparently this company is paid by a law firm to serve papers and not make phone calls making threats for failure to appear.  I am currently on the phone with the number LPS provided and I will update as soon as I get this all sorted out.

I received a call from an unknown phone #. She provided this phone # 213-293-2594.  When I questioned her, she hung up.  I call the number and a male answered stating that I was calling Roberts and Associates.  When I asked if it was a law firm, he said and then said yes.
These are scammed. Don't provide any personal information.  I will research.  Police confirmed that these phone calls are indeed from scammers.

Angie, I too received a call on my cell from a private number- and I refuse to take calls from a private number. I also did some research; Roberts and Associates is a law firm based in Tulsa OK. No doubt- it is a SCAM!!!!

Your research is flawed.  LPS is a known criminal organization who masquerades as a debt collector.  It is not unheard of for them to pretend to be actual law firms or companies while trying to con money from you.

Please read the previous posts from which I used to get the name of the caller Angie connected with. I Googled Roberts and Associates and after adding "law firm" to the search it did not turn up as a debt collections law firm.

"I searched LPS and there was nothing found"  Confirming my second sentence.  "LPS is a known criminal organization who masquerades as a debt collector. "  We know about them here.   While it may be true that you found a law firm with that name, just as I did, you also need to read my third sentence:  "It is not unheard of for them to pretend to be actual law firms or companies while trying to con money from you."

I received a message from a private number this morning stating that they have legal papers to sign because someone on my behalf refused to sign and I have two hours to call 213-293-2594. I was also given a case number to reference as well.

I went to the MN Fourth Judicial District Court website to verify the case number. It came back as no records returned from my search. This is an ongoing scam and I am not falling for it!

Should anyone else reads this who also received a call from LPS and leaves a "case number", contact your State district court via phone or internet and check if it is valid.

I received a missed call from a private number.  The message was a rude man saying he was calling from LPS for Angela Hymen because she refused to sign legal documents.  The number they had given me to call was (213) 465-0183.  They stated the call had to be returned within 2 hours.  I am ignoring this request, as I am not Angel Hymen, nor do I know her.  I have had this phone number for more than 10 years.

    LPS Scam
This group of scammers has a long history on 800notes.
    Known for:
    • Constantly calling you at work when you have asked/told them not to.
    • Revealing your debt to third parties.
    • Leaving messages and not revealing they are a debt collector.
    • Threatening a lawsuit when they do not intend on bringing one.
    • Claiming that you can or will be arrested if you do not pay the debt.
    • Claiming that a judgment will occur immediately if you do not pay.
    • Claiming that they can garnish your wages if you do not pay.
    • Claiming that they will put a lien on your house if you do not pay.

Demand a debt validation letter if they call you and demand it be sent by US mail.  E-mail no good.  Of course , they won't do this.
Do not pay them anything w/o such a letter, if you have paid them anything or are  in the process of paying them anything, it might be a good idea to simply stop paying them.  Any credit or debt cards numbers they have should simply be cancelled and new ones obtained.

These people are serious debt scammers.
    Report them:  http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also report them  to the California Attorney General:
    http://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/collection_agencies10

If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the [***] are working out of now.

I received a call from LPS yesterday July 6th. So i set up my webcam and put my cell on speaker and called them back. The guy who answered the phone identified the company as Roberts & Associates. I gave him the "complaint" number and he then struggled to pull up my file. After a little badgering from me he finally located my file and had the last 4 of my social and my birth date and an address that I hadn't lived at for over 2 years. He said that they were a law firm and that I was being served. So I asked him over what debt and he claimed it was a 2010 Paypal Credit Card from GEMB. I told him that under Florida law the statute of limitations had expired and he seemed to stumble on that and even argued with me over how long the statute of limitations was. So I asked several times to speak with his supervisor, he then said he ran that department and then told me that, "I am not doing anything for you because I don't work for you". Never once did I argue over the debt but when I asked him to mail me out hard copy proof that they owned the debt he refused several times. I tried several times to give him my new address but he refused to let me finish giving him the address. He said that his "clients" would rather I not pay the debt because they could collect more from me through garnishments. So again I reminded him of the Florida statute of limitations and I also made him aware that I am disabled and on SSI and that he nor his "law firm" can garnish SSI for any reason. Several times I asked him if he was a lawyer or representing a lawyer or if he was a bill collector and he stumbled with each sad answer. So I asked him if they didn't want me to pay a debt then why did they call and threaten me and he said that it wasn't his company who left the initial message but a process server. When I read back what the "process server" had said he called me a liar several times. I ran this entire call on him and gave him no room to come up with any more bullsh*t lies. So after badgering him a little more I told him that if he wasn't willing to take my address so they could prove ownership of the debt to me that he might as well just hang up because he was inept at doing his job. And guess what, he dropped my call and fast too. I am going to post a You Tube video by the name of "LPS Roberts & Associates Failure" of this entire conversation so others can hear the lines of crap that this company tries to spew.

Don't let these people try to intimidate you, tell them to mail you hard copies of anything they claim to have and then sit back and listen to them squirm on the phone. Run the call on them, they can't handle it when people fight back with facts.

Here is a transcript of their initial call that was left on my answering machine

This call is for Chris XXXXXXX

its easy when you have had the same cell number for 16 years...& you have no idea why scammers are suddenly calling your phone looking for someone by their full name....& it took two seconds of Google to find who they were looking for and its not even close where I live. This guy was a joke...full message left on my cell obviously from a script trying really hard to sound threatening...
