Have gotten several robocalls from "someone" (or some machine) saying he/it was calling on behalf of the Los Angeles County Fraternal Order of police to collect donations on behalf of the families of officers fallen in the line of duty.  Guy has a very masculine, military-type voice (drops his tone at the end of words and sentences, so as to seem no-nonsense and like he was giving you an order instead of making a request).

On a couple of occasions, he kept calling me "ma'am" (I'm a guy).  So I  interrupted him, which was hard to do, since I suspect that his patter is automated and he's not programmed to be on "receive," and asked why he kept calling me "ma'am."  After a couple of false starts, he caught on and switched to sir, and repeated exactly his last few lines, only this time with "sir" where "ma'am" had been.  When he asked, "Can the families of the fallen officers count on you, " I just say "no" and hang up.

This may seem callous, but remember, you're not talking to a real person. Maybe others stay on the line and try to reason with the guy, but remember, he's a machine, and "he" is programmed to win at all costs, so you might as well just cut your losses.
