We have received SEVERAL calls (too many to count!!) from these "people"... they badger, harass, & try to strongarm money out of people.  The last call was 7-23-09 & I just filed a complaint at donotcall.gov , which I would have done sooner had I know I could have filed a complaint.  I remember a coworker being harassed by this group several years ago.. it was SOOO bad every day that she ended up changing her phone #!!

Rec'd phone call this evening. No response after I said hello twice.
Finally he comes on the line, ask I was after he stated where he was from.
I responded not too good since I lost my job and he still has his.
I hung up and got into a arguement with my husband because my rudeness,

Called 3X in last 2 weeks.  Always hangs up prior to answer service picks up.  Another scam artist fishing for victims.  Any reputable charity will leave a message.  When will they learn, any smart person will not donate to a phone caller, unless they are asking to get ripped off.  Sorry, legitimate charities, it is the sign of the times.  I only donate in person or charities I research.  NEVER by phone or credit card.

This is a SCAM outfit. It has nothing to do with any police department or police protection fund.

Tell family members and friends that if they want to donate money to a police department or a police union, then contact that organization directly to find out how to make donations.

These scumbag callers deserve jail time!

And of course, the FEDS and the phone companies are right on top of these scum to put them in jail. Yeah, right.

They called; wife answered; nothing in reply.

When will they stop?  Why after how many years this hasn't been stopped?

Hm. I got public awareness as the ID that came up when this number called after 7pm.

I got the call from 217 483 9596 this afternoon and the CID simply stated "PUBLIC AWARENES."

Yuck.  Go away whoever you are.

I just called that number, blocking my CID and got an answering machine with a male voice on it.  I asked to have my number, which I spoke twice, from their calling lists.  We'll see what happens.

Telephone call received at 7:31 p.m. 12/01/09 soliciting money.
Called claimed to be a police officer and wanted money for helping and burying policeman. My caller I.D. showed Police Protection 217 483 9596.

A call right at 1:30 pm.  As soon as answered it was a hang up.  Caller ID indicated the number above.  Other times I have received from this number I have hung up on them.  Always saying something stupid.

These calls are getting annoying.  Answering machine at the number says, "not her; call back later."  There has to be a way to stop these calls.  The DNC list apparently isn't doing the trick.

Call came in at 11:20am came up as Police Protection Fund didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.  If you do answer they want your money to help them with fallen police to help out there familes.  It's a bunch of bull**** if you ask me.  So don't answer them.

Just got a call from this number and it said "Public Awareness"?  No voicemail message.  I'm not calling them back but surely there has got to be something we can do to stop them...are they not subject to the Do Not Call list?

Have been receiving calls from this number for several days.  Never leave a message.  After reading comments, glad I haven't answered this.  
Nothing we can do to stop this as "charities" are exempt under the Federal DNC laws.

I did laugh at the injured Polish Police changing a light bulb.  Yes, we continually get calls from them.  We told them to mail us info if they wanted something.   They still call and are becoming quite rude.  Even if we hang up on them they call several times the next day.

Can you believe I actually worked for these criminals under false pretenses.They cheated me out of my last commission check and moved suddenly.
