When I tried to call the number back, it is disconnected. Therefore it isn't even a real number and is just being used for these calls. The fact that the person knows details about people is what puts me over the edge. I luckily didn't answer.

This same thing happened to me today. I live in Florida and received several calls from this number. After the third call, I answered and the person said, "Is this Amy?" So I replied, "Who is this?" And he told me "You know who this is, I date your friend in the Center for ______" which is a center I am involved at in my university.  I told him I didn't know who he was and he told me to guess and gave me a description of a tall black guy. He knew information about me! It was so creepy. I guessed he was one of my friends named John. He said yes! of course. And even kind of sounded like him. Then he told me this story about how he was drugged by some girl and needed help sobering up before he tried to go home. So I told him I would listen if he needed someone to talk to (still thinking he was my friend).  After a few minutes he told me he was aroused and started talking dirty. It sounded like he might be masterbating and he asked me a sexual question. I told him I was uncomfortable and that I couldn't help him.  He told me sorry and thanks, and then that he loved me. Then he hung up. Still thinking he might be my friend, I texted my real friend, who was perfectly fine at the library.  So weird! If you get a call from this guy, do not answer!

I think it is someone in Missoula even though the last 2 call posted were made out
of state. He could be doing that to through people off. Everyone needs to file a police
report so they will do something. It is not rocket science to find the phone that bought that
number as an app. There has to be a common thread to these calls...especially knowing
    everyone by name...

That needs to be reported! Why would the local police tell you to report
it to the FTC and the FBI? They should be working on it too!
Are you in Missoula too? I believe there is a common thread with this guy
and the fact he knows our names and is convincing enough to keep us
on the phone. Something needs to be done sooner than later.

Everyone needs to file a police report! The last 2 posts are from out of state
but he could be doing that to throw people off. He is also using a 2nd number.
    Too many Missoula calls.
The Girard IL police department said they have received calls from Montana
reporting that number too. That landline number was disconnected Sept. 9th
and the house is vacant. They are the ones that told me about an app. that
can be purchased to get phone numbers in order to cover their tracks. They
said it is common with predators.Missoula police said they haven't heard
about that and there isn't anything they can do. Some body better do something
because this guy knows people by name!!!

Did you report it in person and fill out a report?
I thought a call in was reporting it, but they told
me I had to come in and fill out paperwork when
I called to see if anything had been done about
    it.

You are right! There has to be a connection! I was shocked
to see all the posts since I last checked. The police better
do something about it and now there is also a young girl
    involved!

I live in FL and he just called me too, calling me by name and as soon as I tried to guess who it was, he used that name as his own.  I put it on speaker and my boyfriend listened because I was freaked out thinking it was my best friend's crappy ex calling for help. The connection wasn't great- static and unclear, at times it even sounded like a pre-recorded message that repeated itself depending on what I said.  Once he started talking about having sex with some woman to get her pregnant and being all messed up on ecstasy, I asked him to confirm his last name so I knew if I was talking to the right person.  He hung up instantly and the # is disconnected now. I might contact the Girard IL police too but not sure where to go from there- probably some hacker-type that just stole all my identifying info...that'd suck.

I also live in FL and he called me last night at 4:10, 4:12 and 4:13am.  I picked up on the third call.  He spoke to me by name and had the same story..."I'm a boyfriend of one of your girl friends."  When I asked who, he told me to "think of Gainesville" (the city of the college I attended) and had "just did something bad and was over at a girls house and had taken ecstasy and just wanted to talk."  I hung up at that point but was/am totally creeped out.  I am going to report to the police and verizon.

    Soul Sister
He called me on September 18th, and he just called me again about an hour ago with a new scam:

In the new scam, he's pretending to be a survey-taker from the "University of _____" (whatever area code your phone number is from). I'm in Missoula, MT, but my number is out of state, so he wouldn't know that. He claimed to be a student but I recognized his voice. Though I gave him very little information, he started asking questions regarding my anonymous opinion about the sale of pornography in convenience stores, public sectors. When I agreed to take the survey, not thinking that he could be the same jackhole that called me 6 months ago, and already feeling apprehensive because the number was blocked "Unknown" but sounded familiar, he started asking me sexual history questions. When he got to the topic of masturbation, I cut him off and stopped him. I asked him how many questions he had left, and despite claiming to have been "on the phone all night" and "just trying to fulfill the survey quota for his class", he couldn't answer me. He said there were "a lot more questions about masturbation" and that I "shouldn't answer if I was uncomfortable". I told him that I was apprehensive after getting a call from a person with a similar sounding voice awhile ago and he expressed deep regret for making me "uncomfortable" and said that we didn't have to do the survey. But then he segued into "Survey aside, tell me more about you. The way you answered questions just made me curious. Tell me more about yourself."

That was the last straw. I gave him little to no information besides very generic, non-detailed answers to his "survey" questions about my sexuality before the questions got too personal. So that was a big key that this was the same guy as before; same accent.

Also, listen for his dog. She's a Maltese who gets jealous when he's on the phone and barks at him. He also has allergies and was sneezing/coughing periodically. Listen for those things to clue you in to his identity. This guy might be harmless now, but any troubled person can start acting out if he feels trap. FYI.

Hey guys, I got the same call last night at 3 am he called 2x in a row. It was most certainly a black man. What does everyone have in common that this guy is getting our names and numbers? I was wondering if it was craigslist. I just posted something for sale yesterday, with my first name and number, which the man called me by. Is he only talking to girls? Are there any guys out there that he hasn't hung up on?

Got the same call last night, except I'm in Texas. I feel like he might be using university directories to get names/numbers, haven't been on Craigslist recently. Though he might be using both...

I'm also in Texas. I called the police and filed a report. Everyone should do the same so we can try to track this sick freak. He even knew my middle name which barely any of my friends even know.
