I just got yet another call.  They asked if I was still a Visa or Mastercard holder.  I asked them to take me off their list and was hung up on.

i received 4 different calls in 4 days from this number and no idea you they are, shows up as wireless caller or phone number wireless number do not know who they are. they do not leave any messages at all.

There is another number with it like a serial number...V42310105400054....than the number...never answered..

This is the first time they called me...it only rang a couple times,then they hung up.

I get calls everyday, sometimes a couple times a day from this number...I live in Labrador Canada. Thank god I can block them on my cell

Got a call from this number this evening.  I wasn't home from work yet.  Tempted to call it back but can't be bothered wasting my LD minutes on the home phone.  I'm in Niagara Falls, ON.  If it's REALLY important they'd leave a message.  Otherwise, [***]!  When I get home from work I have to make dinner, tend to the kids, tend to the house....I'm not in the mood for B.S. with strangers.

I received a call (for the first time) from this number today, and when I said hello, there was no reply.  I didn't hear any background noises, and it didn't sound as though there was anyone on the line at all, so I hung up and did an online search to find out who owns the number.  All I could find online was that the call originated from somewhere close to Duluth, Minnesota

Initially, the information that I was able to get online told me that the phone number is not registered as belonging to any legitimate company, and that it points to a location near Duluth, Minnesota.  I also found information that stated the number was a cell phone number and not a land line.

BUT.... None of that information is actually correct!  This is because the caller is using "Google Voice/Google Phone" to contact you.  The actual phone number that belongs to the caller is NOT the phone number you see in your caller ID.  218-296-6241 is a Google phone number that has been provided to whomever it is that signed up for the Google phone service.  

For those of you who aren't familiar with Google Phone/Google Voice, here's a few facts....
If you have a G-Mail account, you can use Google Voice to have a "video chat" with someone, instead of sending them an e-mail or instead of using any of the Instant Message chat programs.  Obviously, the person you are 'calling' needs to have the program on their computer as well!  It works similar to Skype, and all you need is a mic and speakers or a headset to use it.

You can also sign up for the Google Phone program - which is like having one central hub to handle all of your various phone numbers.  Instead of giving people your work number and your cell and your home numbers, you can give them one phone number - your Google Phone number, that you have personally selected.  You program your home phone number, your work phone number, your cell phone numbers, even other family members cell numbers, into the Google Phone program.  Then, when someone calls your new Google phone number, based on the instructions you have entered into the Google Phone system, that caller will be routed to the location that you have selected.  If someone is trying to reach you, they don't have to call three different numbers in order to find you.  They call one number - your Google phone number - and that call will be routed to whatever location you have programmed into your Google Phone account.  You can even have it ring all three locations at the same time!  If you don't answer, the caller will be able to leave you a voice mail message - - which saves you the time and hassle of having to call in and obtain your messages at work, and then at home, and then on your cell phone.  All you do is check your Google phone voice mail box, because all of your messages will be stored in one location.

Lastly, Google phone works as a VOiP system.  Just like Skype, you can use your computer to make a phone call.  It doesn't need a webcam, because Google Phone can be used for all phone calls - not just video calls.  When you call someone from your computer, the caller ID will only display your Google phone number, and NOT any of your personal phone numbers!   So, whoever it is that is calling all of us recently is making the calls from their computer, using the Google Phone VOiP system.  Their true phone number will never be displayed to us.  Their true location will never be identified.  Your best bet is to block them (if you have a cell phone, this is easily managed thru your phone's options) or contact your phone company if you are being called on a land line.  They do have ways to block a number from calling you.  Most likely, this will be offered as a "call blocking" option, and may cost you a monthly fee.  But, if you want the calls to stop, it's worth it.  Otherwise, you can just pick up the phone and hang up immediately, so that the ringing stops, or just ignore it altogether.  Pretty soon, if they never, ever, ever reach you, they will give up!  But, if you answer and say hello, they know they have called a valid number, and they may keep trying.  

The ever changing technology in the world today can be wonderful and fabulous...but it also presents more opportunities for the swindlers and scam artists to figure out a way to use new technology to their benefit.  We just have to be smarter, more knowledgeable and one step ahead of them in order to protect ourselves!

It's really hilarious how you all get yourselves worked up over a stupid call. I don't answer, after a few times of not getting any answer they give up.  The stress isn't worth it.  Who cares who it is.

i just got a call from this number he said my name and when i said that this is me he hangs up called it back it wants me to say my name and it will try to connect me. wtf? i also got a call from this number on 4-12-2012 at 11:46 am like many others have said how in the hell does he know my name??

the name of the company is JST MERCHANTS  not gst emergency i just got the call

the number belongs to JST Merchant Services, LLC i actually answered the call to me it sounds interesting but to many people have an opinion and it is hard to tell if this is scam or legit.

the last two days they have called here, here is Indianapolis. i have a silent # on my land line but that doesnt seem to matter to these people. I will answer it next time and threaten to report them but by the sounds of one of the posts here, no-one talks if you do answer.
Strange- why call if you dont talk?

I keep getting calls from this number but have no idea who it is.  I don't want them to use my cell phone minutes.  I'm on the no call list.

I get a call from 218-296-6241 on average 18 per months. This has been going on for about 7 months.
They phone my cell phone but have never left a message on my voice mail.I live in Vancouver BC Canada

jst merchants saying they have a postion with Visa available and want you to go to work for them...YA RIGHT!!!!!

Got a call on my cell at 1:06 pm .. only says, Staples, MN on call display.  They didn't leave a message.
