I received a call that only had six digits showing... 234-567-892
That's it. However, I am using this number to report because it is the only one someone else has reported with those digits (and the additional digit "3" makes it a proper phone number)
This number just called my cell phone AND my direct work line several times each, leaving no messages. VERY few people have both of my phone numbers, there's no way a scammer could have both of those! What is going on?!

Defendants Were First to be Charged with Transmitting False Caller ID to Consumers

Under the terms of a court order announced by the Federal Trade Commission today, two individuals and one corporate defendant have been barred from violating the agency’s Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) and its Do Not Call (DNC) provisions arising from a telemarketing scheme designed to sell mortgage loans, refinancing services, and other products to U.S. consumers. They were also found liable for $530,000 in damages.

In addition to charging the defendants with calling consumers on the National DNC Registry and failing to pay for access to the list, the case was the first brought by the Commission alleging the transmission of phony caller ID information or none at all. Under the DNC provisions of the TSR telemarketers are required to transmit accurate caller ID information so consumers who do not want to be called in the future can contact them and tell them so.

The Commission’s Complaint

According to the FTC’s complaint, announced in May 2006, Srikanth Venkataraman, formerly of New Jersey and doing business as Scorpio Systems, Ltd., sold mortgage loans, refinancing, and other products and services to U.S. consumers via outbound telemarketing. Scorpio allegedly called numbers on the Do Not Call Registry, failed to transmit its telephone number and name to consumers’ caller identification service, and failed to pay the fee required to access the Registry. The telemarketer transmitted either no caller ID or a phony caller ID number – 234-567-8923 – and, as a result, consumers were unable to contact the telemarketer to stop unwanted calls.

I received the same message today and several other days. I wish they would leave me alone. Is there anything to do to stop them or find out who they are?

I continue to get calls from this number on my  cell and work number.  Always a very heavily accented (Indian) male, today his name is "Steve Hill".  Yeah, whatever. I can barely understand but it's some blurb about a "time sensitive matter" and he is requesting an immediate call back from me or my attorney, and if we don't call him back all he can do is wish me well as the situation unfolds around me. I have both my numbers set to not leave a voice message; not sure how he got through.  The call back number is 347-578-8520.

I got the same voivemail, a woman heavy Indian accent, can barely understand her or what she's talking about. Reception is horrible on the phone, sounds like she's calling from a cell phone while waiting on a train station its so bad.  No idea who the company is.

they dont give up still calling!i told her wrong number about 3 times worked 4 about a week now she calling arguing whith saying its the right number.go figure ps i check my credit report and even got a loan since then.if her clam was leget shouldnt it show up?it dint

Hmmmm.....I got the same type of phone call today from a Daniel Craig (at least that is what is sounded like)......very heavy accent, left a message saying there was a legal case brought against my name.  I swear these people are relentless.......I've been getting calls like this for months.  Wished I knew what I can do to get them to stop.  I threatened to turn them in, I have even contacted my local authorities about this and flagged my credit reports for possible fraud.  I guess this is about all I can do to protect myself.  I wished these people could be stopped and prosecuted for hassassment.  The call back number was: 347-578-8520

I continue to get calls from this number 234-567-8923.  Telling me that myself or my attorney need to contact them immediately b/c this is a time sensitive matter.  I have talked to the guy a couple of times and he won't give me any information on what I "supposibly" owe money for.  It has been going on for about 6 months now and it is getting really old.

im geting calls from this number and so are 2 of my best friends and my and one of my friend and the one missed call tone plays and it calles my other friend and bill ny the scencs guy plays me and my friend a freaked out and dont want this number to call us anymore so please help

(234) 567-892    Do not answer and block. Going to check why Tl keep getting calls because l am on the do not call list.
I think if you answer and listen then they will have your number.   Then they use a new number. I called the number and said l want a supervisor. He said they are not Verizon. They are Horizon and can help you with your student loan. Darn crooks.

NEW SCAM ALERT.   A unknown person calls you up. Do not answer. Sounds like they say this is Verizon. then can can you hear me now?. Next is THE most important part. They say a recording will start to make sure blah, blah, blah. iThey ask you is this ok?
IF YOU SAY YES, SOMEHOW THEY USE YOUR Number TO MAKE A LONG DISTANCE PHONE CALL. The. You are billed for it. These crooks stink.

Weird number indeed! I kee getting these unwanted numbers calling my phone. Doesn't say anything or leave a message. Numbers I don't know I don't answer anyway. It's annoying though.

I have received a phone call from this number everyday for the past two weeks. It needs to stop. I'm on the do not call registry.
