Scammers typically insist on Western Union wire payments. Legitimate debt collectors don't insist on such arrangements.

167 Langfield Drive in Buffalo appears to be an apartment building.  WhitePages.com shows 5 residential listings there -- http://www.whitepages.com/search/ReverseAddress?street=167+Langfield+Drive&city_zip=14215&state_id=&localtime=survey -- none of which are listed as Lawrence Johnson. (No surprise there.)

For some reason, that Langfield Drive address rings a bell. If I find anything else out, I'll post it here.

I don't know what to make of that alixpartners.com site. It could be the scammers are trying to convince you that they're legitimate and sent you to that website even though they have nothing to do with Alix Partners. One link on that site is for "Litigation Consulting Services" which, as we know, is one of the company names used by the scammers who are contacting you. But on the Alix Parnters website, "Litigation Consulting Services" isn't listed as a company name but, rather, one of many services provided by Alix, rather than as a separate company.  There's no contact information on the Alix website but if you do a website domain search, you'll see this:

I'm guessing that the scammers have no connection to Alix and gave you that website just to fool you into thinking they were legit.  That would explain why they would want you to wire money to a person in an apartment building in Buffalo rather than sending it to Alix Partners.

Here's one message from that thread: "One of my insidearm.com friends called me. More Star, LCC is affiliated with Litigation Consultants, LLC and Primer Line Financial Services, LLC. Primer is listed on debt connection. A salesman by the name of John Mitchell his phone number is (703) 348-3426. I just left him a voicemail. All 3 companies have the same registered agent by the name of Christopher Hansworth in Cleveland, Oh. As you can tell these guys are in the business of taking accounts that are not theirs. That is the only way I could find this much information this quickly. ALL BE VERY AWARE IN YOUR CERTIFICATION PROCESS. THIS HAPPENED TO A BUYER OF OURS AND MAKE SURE REGISTERED AGENTS ARE KNOWN IN YOUR CERTIFICATION PROCESS. PARTICUARLY, CHRISTOPJER HANSWORTH."
     
So even other debt collectors are suspicious of these scammers!

Whatever you do, do NOT pay these crooks a penny and keep on reporting them to federal and state authorities:

At some point, the feds and state authorities will get so many complaints that they'll eventually do something about it.  One final thing...you may want to consider alerting Alix Partners that these scammers are using the Alix Partners' name and website in their scam. On their website click on "Contact US" and there's a form you can fill out. Their reaction would indicate whether they're connected to the scammers or not. (My guess is, they are not connected.)

If these crooks call you again, tell them that they aren't getting any money and that you've reported them to federal and state law enforcement, and will do so each time they call.

So I did some research on that address. SuperPages.com (shows this more specific information:

That "Suite 400-146" screams rented mailbox. A reverse search on that address shows that a Subway restaurant, a travel agency, a drug store and other similar businesses located there. That usually means it's a shopping center. And if a debt collector has a shopping center address, that usually means there's a mail box rental store at that shopping center.  Sure enough, The UPS Store -- which rents out private mailboxes -- is located at 3871 Harlem Rd:

Seems to me that if, as you claim, you worked for this company, you would know that the 3871 Harlem Road address isn't the office of Final Control Asset Locators but merely a rented mailbox.

So the question is, why post misleading information? I have no doubt that Final Control Asset Locators is some fly-by-night debt collector, but you've offered no evidence that the calls that appear to come from 240-483-4601 are being placed by Final Control Asset Locators.  I tend to trust Bud Hibbs' information on this more: http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm

Check out this report filed by a consumer on Bud Hibbs' website -- http://budhibbs.com/debtcollectorpages/NAAIB.htm -- regarding the  Litigation Consulting Service scam...note the company name in the second to last sentence:

"Date:  March 2008  I have just been scammed by this company. Luckily, after they strong armed me into giving them my financial information I did an internet search on them and discovered they are rip off artists. I immediately closed my bank account. Just wanted to give you a heads up that they are working under the following names and phone numbers. Donald Clyde & Stephanie Morrison: 240-483-4601  Daniel Hoffman: 240-696-1715
They also sent me an email 'confirming' that my debt would be liquidated upon my payment. The email came from a company called MoreStar Consultants, LLC. (from Ohio).  Hope this will help some people."

according to the ip adress they sent this email from NYC. So I guess there is a little proof that Moore Star LLC was not in Cleveland.

I have no doubt that MoreStar/Litigation Consulting has accomplices in Buffalo, especially considering that Buffalo is the world headquarters for debt collection scams.  However, I'm skeptical about Dell's information because he said he worked for Final Claims Asset Locators and then provided an address for that company that is just a rented mailbox.

Regardless, if I were you, I'd report all this to the attorneys general of Ohio, New York and Maryland and the FBI each time these crooks call.

dont be skeptical its the real address. 3871 harlem rd is a office building.  The subway and the jubilee is across the street. The building that final claims is located in also has a insurance officer in and as well as a doctors office. It is also next door to a hectors hardware.

I don't doubt that it's a real address. It's clearly the street address of a shopping center where a UPS Store is located. The UPS Store rents private mailboxes, and private rented mailboxes are often used by crooks running debt collection scams.

Identical street address, identical suite number; the only difference is the "146", which is the rented mailbox number at the UPS Store.

All that I'm pointing out is that the address used by Final Claims Asset Locators -- 3842 Harlem Road Suite 400-146 -- is not an office but a rented UPS Store mailbox. And that if, as you claimed, you really worked for Final Claims, you would have known that that address was just a mailbox location rather than an office.

just recieved call from husbands ex - she said a detective was looking to arrest my husband, scared his 16 year old son and his ex.  She told me he used the word detective and jail!  I called the number and he said he was a detective Daniel ?? (should of written it down - though it may not be real anyways)for Investigative Services - for whom, for waht I asked he said attorney's hire them to look for people then he repeated his name without the detective part! Crazy - yes will be filing a complaint - thanks to those who posted links. Oh and its emergencey medical they are looking for - no one in our family can afford health insurance and well were not illegal aliens either - so we pay what we can when we can.  I thankfully gave him no information - though i should of given him an earful for being down right deceitful and scaring a child.

well im guessing that the scammers have chnaged the phone number to there company 1-(240)-235-5615, because i dont see this number in any of these posts. Regardless it is the same company as posted here that is trying to scam me. If it wasnt for my mom they would have got me because i gave them all my info. Tonight I am closing my bank account. They had called threating me with going to jail and getting a summons to go to court. If you get a call from these guys report it they are scammers, they go by these names  More Star, LLC, Litigation Consultants, LLC and Primer Line Financial Services, LLC. So if you are contacted by one of these companies, then tell them to shove it.

I got a call from this number 240-483-4601 leaving me a message saying they needed me to call a.s.a.p it was a legal matter that needed to be taking care of/also in referance to being a special investigative unit and the fact that this is serious,it kind of startled me at first but I knew I still wasn't sure so I decided to look this number up and this site popped up and I am thankful that it did, so now I am reporting this and hope these (As*****) get what is coming!!!

These are drug dealers, using a scam of Litigation Consulting Services, Bethesda, MD to take money. They bought a VERY old portfolio of debts, contact debtors with threats of litigation, IRS actions, credit card fraud, etc. They are usingh the money to buy drugs and finance more purchases. They are liars and con artists, nothing more. Do not fall for their obvios scam.
