I just posted an ad on Craigslist yesterday and got a text message from the same number (2404895489) and was asked to send an email to this guy's account (davebar234@gmail.com) because he couldn't reply. The guy said the same thing "looking to buy it for his son as a birthday surprise" and to use PayPal because he didn't have access to his bank account online. Too good to be true. What type of person has access to their PayPal account but not their banking account? DUH. Total scammer. He didn't even want to look at it or test it out.

Got the same response, same message, same everything from this guy about a motorcycle I've listed for sale. Sounds like his son is in for quite the birthday if he's buying cars, boats, bikes, and RVs for him...

Same exact thing for me too with a car on cars.com. You would think he'd change his story up a little bit.

got a call about a vehicle sell. same deal, phishing for paypal info.

asked to buy something off me from craigslist, texted me from this number then saying to reply back to his email davebar234@gmail.com. is a California area code and I live in michigan

Got a text from this number, the message said - please reply back to my personal email ASAP - davebar234@gmail.com because I am unable to reply on this - I told him to call me back at my cell to talk further....still waiting for his call..THANKS A LOT folks for putting this on the web, I know how to deal with him now.

Just got the same text and email from this loser... I did however create a paypal account and sent him the info, but I didn't put any bank info or other info just email and phone. Should I do something different to protect my self? I tried canceling the paypal account but I can't....

Contact Paypal directly and tell them this account was set up because a scam attempt. That the scammers have all the info and you want it canceled. Follow this up in writing, sent via the US mail certified or return receipt. Also place fraud alerts and make sure you register with identity protection notify the credit agencies as well as your banks!!

Cars.com scammer. Beware!

I received a text message asking if my car was still available and if so, to email him DaveBarnett@gmail.com  not to respond via text because it's his work number.  That was suspicious to me, but I emailed him.  When he responded to my email, I clicked on the picture to find out more info, the picture was saved as John.jpg.  

Here's the email he sends:

Thanks I'm just asking about it to make sure its in good condition as im buying it for my son as a birthday surprise gift and he doesn't know about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? My Mode of payment is PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account online, but i have it attached to my PayPal account. Since I'm

Just log on to www.paypal.com. I hope we can make this transaction as fast as possible. This guy "davebar234" texted me from this number, trying to buy a 2009 Toyota Sienna via Paypal and an "agent" he was going to send to pick up the car for his son's "birthday".  I'm glad I told him he was welcome to buy the car with Cash or a certified check from a local bank - or have his agent do so!  Haven't heard back from him!

Just had this guy contact me with the same lines. Can't talk on phone, want to buy for surprise. Glad I ran across this site.
He used the outlook email address ryanvey001@outlook. Even gave a billing address, which turned out to be an apartment in Troy MO.  Also be watchful for Frank Owen, email frankowen5741@gmail.com, also had a billing address of 955 Bascom Mall which was a walkway that turned out to be a music hall at the university of WI. Thank you Google

Same happened today with me his phone number was 262-648-5181 asked me to send info to his e-mail same MO suprise gift for his son but It sounded fishy to me so I cornered him.....haven't heard anything since Frank Owen
