I got a text from (253-244-6408), which Google shows as a Tacoma, WA landline, asking about Craigslist gym equipment I have for sale.  I'm in Michigan.  The message said that they were texting w/ an office phone (this was at 3:37 AM their time) and they asked me to reply to garrisond803@gmail.com.  I Googled (253-244-6408) and didn't come up with anything, but when I Googled garrisond803@gmail.com, I found a thread relating to a guy who contacts people on Craigslist and says he's out of the country or some other excuse, sends a fake PayPal invoice, and somehow scams people into sending money via Western Union.  He has also said he's a deployed Marine.  The phone number was different (this thread was throughout 2013) but email was the same.

Received text from this number, which stated it was an office phone.  Gave email to text back at garrisond803@gmail.com.  Texted him back and stated yes, I still had the pickup, but then I googled the number and this came up.  I texted him back and advised him it was no longer available.  Have not heard from him since.  Thank God for Google.  I wish these people would get a life.

Unfortunately, it seems some folks neglect to read even the first warning:
"DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON—follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts."

Ha! same thing just happend to me just 5mins ago. I am in GA and i posted an add for some rims that i am selling, a guy texted me from 904-999-2241 and said the exact same thing and gave that same email address. I responded to the text at that email and again the same exact thing, he is out of the country blah blah blah create a paypal and send him an invoice once i saw that i googled the email address and this came up! smh.. sad individuals. Everyone is not a dummy and don't fall for anything.
