• There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
• If it sounds (or looks) too good to be true, it probably is.
• You have not won big bucks from a benign benefactor, a pot of pesos from PCH, dinero from a doctor, or a grant from a gracious government    <<<<<<<<<<<<
• The tooth fairy really does not exist
• Everything you read on the internet is not necessarily true.
• It is illegal to ask for money for a loan or prize, before awarding the loan or prize!
• "Free Trips" are loaded with mandatory & costly extras, and you usually must give them your card number after listening to a loooong spiel at a hotel.
• Microsoft or one of their agents did NOT cold call you to fix your computer.
• The moon is not made of green cheese.
• The IRS will snailmail you, rather than phone you, if there is a problem.
• Jackalope milk is not an aphrodisiac.
• If you "green dot", MoneyGram or Western Union money to a scammer, the money is gone.
• You should beware of Greeks bearing gifts, specially if the gift is a wooden horse with termites.
• The 876 area code is NOT your lucky number, and does cost money to call it!

My son got a call from this no 253-256-1128. They told him that I should call the number.  I was told 'am eligible for a government grant for $ 9000.00 but I have to put up a $250.00 deposit first to cover my state taxes but I have to pay it first to collect the money from western union. It sounds too good to be true.

Received this bogus call tonight telling me that I'm eligible for a $9,000 grant.  I had to just call this number 253-256-1228.  When I called I was told it was the Treasury Department. Free personal grant that is randomly selected.  EK304 was the confirmation number.  I just had to see where it was going.  He put me on hold and said he was pulling my file.  I gave him the incorrect spelling of my name and my maiden name.  It would be interesting exactly what he would find...

He said he had my file and that with my confirmation number I could receive $9000. I am receiving, every year the gov't conducts a survey and they've selected 1700 citizens who completed their taxes on time and never filed for bankruptcy.  I'm eligible!  Whoohoo!  This is a once in a lifetime, lucky!  This is my grant opportunity.  I can receive it cash at western union or into a direct deposit.  I selected cash!  Money Gram in Walmart or Western Union he asked?  I said Walmart.  He asked which State and that he could have it sent to Walmart.  He put me on hold to get me a notification of where he was going to send it and my notification.  He had to get an email in 2-3 minutes will give me a notification by today or not.  The gov't doesn't want me to misuse it, I need to keep receipts to show what I used the money for.  And I need to use it for renovations, new home, education, starting small business etc.  There will be an inspection at the end of the year by the Federal Grant Higher Authority.  No one can apply for it.  

My notification says that my grant money will be processed at Walmart under my name today!  Since it's now been submitted, the State IRS and PPI - Payment Protection Insurance Dept. I have to pay my state tax beforehand.  I am asking to put down a refundable security department of a refundable $250.

Aye, that's the rub.
You send the money, and kiss it goodbye, since you will never receive the grant.

Got a call from a "unavailable" number. Same as above...so sick of these calls!

I was called and told that with a unique, Transition I.D. # I would get a Once in a lifetime, totally free $9.000. grant.   The number they give you to call appears to be in the state of Washington, based on the area code.  They answer the phone with "Hello", not the name of a business or government department.  When I asked where they were located, they hung up.  There is no such thing as Free Money.  I wanted to get their name, to report it to the Attorney General, but they gave me no information.  Don't fall for this SCAM!!!

Just got a call from a lady saying that I'm going to get a $9,000 grant from the federal government. Afterwards I searched the number and came here. I get these calls often.

I get these all the time. Some are for loans, some for grants. Its all the same scam though as others outlined here on this site. Sometimes I mess with them sometimes I tell them to f-off, and sometimes I lecture them on morals. How would they feel if someone took their Mothers money this way... Yea-Yea I know - but these people are sometimes so stupid and maybe some worker doesnt know better. Clearly these callers are the low men on the totem pole so maybe its not too late for them to get a real job.
The BIGGEST red flag you should get with any of these calls or similar calls is FIRST - the name of the person; "ya dis is john jones und i have interest to select you for free goverment grant of a lot of monies..." OK if thats true then my name is zing zing abdul and I bank at the bank of jihad funding" ! Second tip for desparate people - our government here doesn't give grants like a lottery pick. YOu havent applied for a grant - you arent selected for one. Its that simple. They'll tell you your SSN or your Phone number were selected for the grant because you pay your taxes on time and have no criminal background... youre an idiot if you believe this. Simply not how our country works. They also give you a number to call - make sure to ask them where that number is. Theyll say Washington DC Capital. Folks - these people dont know the USA. Area code 253 is guess where??? Washington STATE. Its also not a LAN line - its a spoofed number from google. But they dont know there is another washington here because they arent HERE at all.

Use your brains folks. Hope you dont get scammed and if you do well thanks for making the USA look foolish. Hope you get what you deserve.

I got the same call from 2532561228 & they told me that I was gettin $9000 from the government but I had to go get a green dot card & put $200 to get the $9000 & when I call them back I would get back $9200 by western union. Yea right so I asked if the government is giving me this $$ y don't they mail it to me & was told that they can't send it by mail so I said no thank you ......

I just got the same call from this number, said his name is Sean Michaels, and his ext. No.is 1043. I didn't call the no. He gave me to call back ,

They told me the government had $9000 for me but I had to send $250 on a pre paid card to get it but the first number that called me was a 844 number with a lady that barely spoke English then gave me another number with an ID number and the guy that I talked to barely spoke English too and his name was Joshua McClain

This is a scam!
I received a call from 844-714-7387 asked me to call 253-256-1228 a gentleman with a really really thick accent claiming to be Mark Johnson xt.1054 asked for my banking information routing number my full first and last name said that I qualified for a government grant from the Obama Recovery Act for $9000  that was free and did not need to be paid back. There was one "formality" I had to go to Walgreens or CVS and get a green dot paypak for $205 and that I had to have them on the phone with me while I took out the Green Dot pay pack to ensure that it was the correct way and they asked if I could walk down or drive NOW while they had me on hold (this made me suspicious). This is the weirdest "formality" that I have ever heard of, its actually quite informal if you ask me. The request for a greendot, that i had to have them on the phone and that this guy said "Mark Johnson" pronounced like it wasn't his real name all made me uneasy. I went online and research the number found this website same story from other people I tried to call back the 844-714-7387 and the call cannot be connected since it's probably an Internet generated number, even though I had just spoken with someone from that number. I called the 253 number again and told them to delete my information that I was not comfortable with this "application"
FYI grants do not require money up front, and the US government won't be making phone calls to give you money either.

UM number one if its free I'm not paying for it you can send it to me in the western union way like you want all of us to send you money. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS!!! Just hang up!

Same story got selected for a grant because I have no criminal record, and I pay my taxes. (844) 714-7387 gave me an approval ID# and told me to call (253) 256-1228. I would get  9k grant and never have to pay it back....Im no sucker, there is no way I even want to go further with this. I asked the same, if I were selected why you don't just send me a check? Operator explains we can't do that. This is a SCAM!

I also received a call from this number. Whenever I receive a call from a number I've never seen before, I immediately search the number via Google, and 9 times out of 10, it's someone calling trying to pull a scam.

I keep getting calls from this number about a loan; message is jumbled, can't really understand female caller; after message, gives very curt goodbye.

Don't ever answer, so she leaves voicemail without identifying herself or company. Calls coming in for last week.
When I block one group of numbers, then someone else calls.

I just got the call today. I did not answer it because I did not recognize the number but they left a recorded message about the loan opportunity.
What a scam!
I'm glad I have Phonetray. They are now on my blocked list and I don't have to hear my phone ring no mo.
