I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes. Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

. - sharon| 1 replyI received the same message also. Why do we keep getting calls if we are on the no call list?
- SM| 1 replyReceived a scam call from this number stating he was Jason OConner from the IRS and I needed to call immediately. This is not the first call, however this one I reported and I'm getting tired of them b/c I know the IRS does not contact by phone. My number is even registered with no call so this is very frustrating to receive these scam calls.

- patti mauroirs fraud and second call that we are being sued
- Mrs. BecerrilI also have received many (10+) calls from this number. In all 6 voicemails, it has been Jason O'Conner from the IRS. Definitely a scam. I just wish he'd stop filling up my voicemail
- AN replies to sharonSharon, why do you expect crooks will honor the DNC list? THEY laugh in our faces!!!!
- Diana replies to LaryyWe just received the same call, 3 times, 3 consecutive days. Using the name Jason O'Connor, which sounded highly suspicious coming from a hispanic accent. Several red flags, he said a lawsuit was pending on our bank account with a legal arrest warrant. First, the proper term would be a lien against the account (not lawsuit) and second, we've never been in trouble with the law a day in our lives so I know there'd be no such "warrant". Also, the 3 messages were identical so it was obviously a recorded message. And of course the IRS would make contact by certified mail, or at the very least come up with a government number not an unidentified number out of Texas.
My 12 yr old could tell this was suspicious - DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM. - CWG40 replies to SMCallers are criminals who regularly ignore US laws.
