261-229-6004

This call appeared on my caller id as 261-229-600415, yes, two extra digits in the number.  

As a rule I don't answer calls from unknown numbers so I waited for them to leave a message.  The message was just a few seconds of background noise, including a ringing tone that made me think I was connected to another number until I realized this was recorded in my voicemail, not an actual phone connection.  

I wonder if anyone else has seen numbers with extra digits like this one?

I received a call from +261229600193 at 3:24 pm and from +261229600415 at 11:29 pm, both on 05/16/08.

It called my cell just now, and called my girlfriend's cell yesterday. Each time it rang once and hung up.

I just tried calling it back. It answered immediately with an automated "Welcome, please wait while I transfer your call" in somewhat poor english. It then played some crappy hold music in horribly low quality.

I'm betting this is a phone charge scam. They call you and hang up immediately trying to get you to call them back and wait on hold while they charge you back disgusting amounts (like the old 900 numbers). I'll know for sure when I get my cell bill, and I'll dispute it if it's more than a regular call.

Interesting we've all gotten the calls today. I'm sure these type of callback scams are set up at a certain number for a day, then disconnected, and set up under a different number(s) the next.

After a little more research, I'm guessing this may not even be the actual number. Caller ID can be easily fooled/altered, and most people will just call it back using their vm or ID rather than keying the whole number back in. ?

I just got the same number today and this is the second time this week. What the [***] does anyone know who this is and what the deal is with these people?

This number logged as a missed call +261 229 600 195 called back and was told to wait on hold by recorderd message, hungup before i hit 1 minute. Clearly this is a scam.

Number is based in Madagascar.

today I had a call from 261200200133, 2 or 3 ring and nothing more. I haven't answered and I haven't called back. My research on Google led me here.
