Any idea who this is? CID says 'Avante'. What the heck is that? No msg left. I suspect it's a scam of some kind. So many of those around these days!

It's a collection agency in Houston, TX, with NUMEROUS complaints against it posted on the Internet.  Search "Avante collections Houston Texas" and you will see.  I am ignoring them.  They'll eventually decide to move on.

I am on national no call list. Call me at work again and I will SUE you.

What possible thought process suggested that we called you,  your caller reads your posts here, or your post will effectively stop calls to you?

Caller woke me up from a nap and asked for my ex daughter-in-law by name.  When I said I was not her, the caller told me to have a nice day and hung up.  Number now blocked.

Not illegal until you tell them you cannot receive calls at work. Should be followed up with a letter on company letterhead.

Called wanted me to verify personal information (Birthdate, sS#)  when i refused they said they could not move forward and hung up...

I thought this may be a personal call since I do know someone with the last name of Avante from Georgia, but apparently it was not.  They asked for a Regina somebody.  I told them they had a wrong  number, and the guy thanked me and hung up.  This was the first time they have called me.  I hope it is the last since I found out it is a collection agency from Texas.

Guy had my correct name and said he was from 'Avante', (I don't know what that is) and immediately launched into saying he needed to confirm my birth date. I told him I am not confirming anything without knowing who you are and why you are calling.  He said, "I can't continue this call without verification of your correct information." And I said "EXCELLENT."  And I hung up.  ---- If this company is legit, are they unaware of how scammers try to scam people by getting information from them?  Lots of old people fall for scam calls and get taken for a lot of money.

Called our office and there was silence for thirty seconds before they hung up.

Lady called my work mobile and asked for me. When I asked her what company she was calling from she replied " i can only share that info with Ms. Autumn, is she available"? Then she asked me to confirm my social and DOB- i asked again what company she was with and she said as soon as she confirms my info she will share hers. (I don't share my personal details with anyone who cant verify who they are first)I simply said I am not sharing personal info and for them to place the number on a DNC list and disconnected the call.

You will need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation (by law they have to go back to the original creditor to prove you owe the debt), cease and desist calling, or "not me" letter (this will be the best money that you have ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt, and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
