THIS IS A SCAM AND ILLEGAL. This number has been turned over to the FBI/local police/State Attorney Generals Office. There is an ongoing investigation regarding these types of scam calls. Thanks for letting us add your number amoung others to "the list". Makes my job easier. So be prepared for what is about to unfold upon you.

They're back at it.  I just got a call that my loan for $7,000 is now approved and I should call them right away with my bank account info so they know where to deposit the money.  

The turnip truck ride was bumpy, but I haven't fallen out yet!

This guy called a few times says that he is from "the legal Dept of the IRS" and that there is a criminal action against. When I ask him for his IRS agent # he said that I will be going to jail for 90 years, and said that he will be following up on the charge then hung up. These people think we are fools. The Federal government should do somethine about these harassing calls. They violate our constitutional rights.

They are a fraud, of course. Next time these foreign criminals call you, and tell you you're going to jail for 90 years, tell them 'great'. Three meals a day, & cable tv.

Caller "Adverd Smith" from IRS Criminal Office Investigation, said he'd issue an arrest warrant if we didn't call back within 30 minutes. We called back and we implied we thought this was a scam.  He said the arrest is for tax fraud and money laundering and he wanted our Criminal lawyer's phone number. Of course we don't have one, so he said he'd forward the arrest warrant to the local sheriff's office.  Contacted FTC, because we couldn't get anyone at IRS, who said this was a scam. These people are horrible. My husband is over 60 & has heart\stress issues and this is scary even if you've never done anything criminal in your whole life!!!  I hope the scammers read this and are warned if they cause someone's death someday be sure they'll be tracked down and arrested for homicide.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

Consumer is receiving calls from this phone number 2818986578 apparently from Texas, he wants this phone number blocked from his phone, a heavy indian accent, they stated that he was being charged with a crime and to call this number immediately.

This guy with an Indian accent left a msg claiming that he is from "the legal Dept of the IRS" and that there is a criminal action against me for tax fraud.  He called from 281-898-6578 and said that his name is Mike Watson. I called him back but couldn't hear him clearly due to digitally unclear sound (probably internet phone).  He immediately wanted the contact info for my criminal attorney.  He knew my name and address.  When I asked that he fax over the paperwork since I have no idea what he is talking about, he simply read over some script claiming that I had not paid taxes to IRS from 2008-2011.  Few minutes later he said 2008-2012.  When I pointed that out he said that I heard it wrong.  When I directly accused him that he was calling me for a phone scam, he claimed that he will arrange it so that I will get arrested in 45 minutes.  I then said that I will wait for any legal paperwork by mail before getting my attorney involved and then hung up.

Received scam call from this number - left voice message that they were the internal revenue service and there was a 'criminal action' attached to my file.  Need to call them (or have my attorney call them) back immediately.

Note:  They didn't even say my name on the message so clearly a random call.  Second, the IRS would not make a call like this.

Don't fall for this!

On Tuesday Sept 9. 2014 received a call back message from this number 281-898-6578 from "Mike Watson" IDing himself as a Internal Revenue Service Criminal Division Agent and saying I should call the number back immediately for an urgent message.  I did so - incidentally this individual "Watson" and the individual who picked up the phone identifying himself as "David Wilson" had a heavy Indian-Pakistani English accent - no offense or slur intended - said he wanted to confirm my residence address and whether very strangely whether I had a "past criminal record."  He said there was a legal subpoena out for me citing me for a violation of Criminal Law and suggested the IRS needed this info to execute an arrest warrant.  At this point I became exasperated with this individual and said "look if you are from the IRS and investigating me you already have any criminal record I may have - you could get it in five minutes!  This IRS representative then asked me if I was at home and should wait there because I could expect a visit in about 45 minutes.  This is pretty scary and I will probably report this incident to my local PD.  What you say?

They are better placed to investigate than the local police. You can also report it to your local FBI office.  

If you want to harass these idiot scammers, call back in 45 minutes demanding to know where the police are since they haven't arrived to arrest you yet.

One guy has a strong accent called me from the number 281 898 6578 and said that I owed IRS tax money from 2007. I asked how come I never got any letter from IRS if I really owed money? He said IRS sent some body to my house, knocked on my door but nobody answered the door. Hm...what kind of IRS that sent somebody to people house to knock on the door ask them to pay tax owed? I know this is a scammer, I don't owed no tax money. I just want people to be alert when you get a call like that.

stupid call from this phone number, name mike watson, harassing my family member that do things against the law.  he should be one arrested.

He claims he is James Watson calling from 281-898-6578 (with heavy Indian accent), and that he is from IRS Investigation unit, and that because of a tax fraud this is a criminal investigation. He runs through verification with his boss, but his boss sounds just like him with statics in the background. If we don't deal with this immediately as a Registered mail was returned 25 days ago, a local police will be coming to arrest us in 45 minutes. So, I asked him, what I needed to do. He said there is an online process, and that I need to pay $2800 today because his boss is letting him to do this.  He was making such a threat, I had to pay attention to him.  
But, I called 911 immediately afterwards, and 911 said that this is a scam. Because we did not pay him, that this person has not committed a crime but be on guard for such scam. I called him back, and told him to stop making such scam.  

I got a call from them saying they represent Cash Advance and told me I took a loan out last year and I need to pay it back or go to jail or court, First off never had a payday loan last year and did the year before and did pay it off but not through Cash Advance so I know it is a scam and also lawyers dont email you anything and you get mail from them first.
