    Complain until you're heard
We got a call from "Utility, 301-246-0919", and didn't recognize that number as being associated with anyone we know and blocked it.  This may be a spoofed call; we've gotten many spoofed calls and cold calls from A1 Solar Power, Inc., and there is a good chance this is another one.

According to the FCC, these calls are illegal and those who make them can be fined; if everyone who posts a complaint on this site also files a complaint with the FCC, the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General of their state, this harassment will finally end.

I've given up on stopping telemarketing calls.  So long as some creep has access to a phone, that's not going to happen.

So, I've settled for minimizing their effect on me.  I'm not saying my way it the only or best way ... only that it works for me.

I don't have a land line, only a cell phone.  When I receive a telemarketer call, which I define to be any call from a party I don't know, or with no caller ID, or with caller ID clearly faked, my first response is to press the down-volume button on my phone, which stops the ringing (but does not hang up).  If I'm at a computer (which is most of the time, alas) I check the number through Google (123-456-7890).  If I recognize the name from that search, then I either answer the call, or if they've hung up already, I call them back.  I also add their name to that number.  For example, legitimate companies sometimes have different numbers that could call me.  My phone list tends to stay more complete that way.

If the first entry in the Google search is 800notes (more often than not), then I let them hang up - I don't want to appear to take any action so they think it's an unattended number.  Then I add that number to my phone book under the name "Do Not Ring", and add them to the group "Do Not Call".  This is added to the phone-only list, so it is not synched with my other accounts.  It remains only on the phone.

Then I assign a silent ring tone as this number's ringer.  I've set it as the default ring tone for the Do Not Call group, but I do it manually anyway.  Then I go to Mr. Number, and assign this number to the spam list.  MrNumber automatically hangs up after only one ring.

So, from now on, when that number calls me, I get only one silent ring, and the call is automatically hung up.  I can't stop them, but at least they don't bother me anymore.

Lest you think this method is too much trouble -- first, when you get used to it, it can be done in a very little amount of time; and second, it doesn't happen all that often that a new telemarketer number calls ... maybe once or twice a week.  Less than a  minute (two minutes at the very most if you get distracted), once or twice a week is not a lot to spend to never hear a call from that number again.

At least that's how I see it.

Like Den, I look up numbers online, but that's as far as I go.  I just ignore/reject unknown numbers -- if they're legit, they'll leave a message.  I don't have time to do anything else with them!

I have received numerous calls from this company. I do not answer as I don't recognize the CID - "Utility".

800notes is not affiliated with your callers, we are not calling you either. 800notes is a forum for reporting who calls you and any information you may have about the call to share with other forum users. It is highly doubtful that your callers are reading here also. We can't stop anyone from calling you either or remove from a list.

Consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.

Report your callers here, not just to the DNC alone:

received calls at 3:19, 3:37 and 3:38 pm from this number.  No message.  They just joined my growing list of "Block this Caller".  Second TMer today. Total of four calls.  Two TMs yesterday total of 3 calls.  Who said the DNC list doesn't work?

Lisa, you have let them know that you have an active line and unfortunately you may be getting many other calls in the future. Just do not answer and block the line if it becomes frequent.

They will do nothing, the number is spoofed and the people will never be found.
