they called 2X, did not leave a message.
I suspect it may have to do with car sales/advertising

called and asked to verfiy this number, said thank you and have a good day.

called and said wrong # was trying to reach someone else.... their # is linked to first data, a company I used to work for they sell and service credit card terminals for retail stores. linked to wells fargo and PNC bank

301-766-5000 and 301-745-7000,this is a merchant service. I would always wonder why they would call and just ask for me by first and last name. But  when I verify correct,then they hang up, well today, I found out. This is a tele-check service, when you write a check they basically call and verify that the phone number they called belongs to the person who wrote the check. I receive the call on my cell, hope this helps.

They called my cell# at 9 p.m. and then they hung up when I let it roll to my VM. I blocked my number and then called them back an hour later: it is called First Data. At the moment they called me, I was in the Apple Store waiting for their phone approval on my check for 150.00 because I didn't have enough cash.  So I really think it was their merchant services calling my phone number automatically, gaining info toward authorizing me, which happened a few minutes later.

Just an FYI I have been doing some research on this company and this phone number... my grandmother received a phone call from this number last night (10-6-08) at almost midnight, she answered, they verified her phone number, and today she woke up and asked me to look into it... Upon a little investigation on my part (I used to work as a private investigator) I developed that this phone number has been related to several instances of identity theft. And sure enough, today we found out that her identity had been stolen... We're trying to correct this now, just consider yourself warned... if anyone has some information that could help, please email me... wes-hughes@att.net

received a call from this number on Monday 8/17 at 3:17 AM. They asked if this was the home of (can't remember the name), I said NO, and hung up!

They called me today and asked me to verify if this was the residence of "Mr. Sandra ******"  The person mispronounced both my first and last name and referred to me as Mr.  I asked where they were from and they said something I did not understand.  They repeated the question to me and I hung up the phone without responding.

This number is from First Data Credit Card Processing. Nothing to be afraid of. My music store has wells fargo process our Visa/MC/Discover and they are a major shareholder in First Data. When we have issues with how batches are settled...these are the folks we call.

Someone from 301-745-7000 called my cell phone 3/25/10 at 6:24pm asking by name if this was my residence, said thank you and hung up before I could ask any questions. When I phoned the number this am I spoke to someone who identified the company as First Data Merchant Services who provides credit card machines to busineses and said they had no idea why anyone from there would be calling me.

My son called and said he had just gotten a call from 301-745-7000 on 5/3/10 at 3:30 They asked if his name was ------- and he said yes, the man said thank you and have a nice day and hung up. I said I'll check it out and found this site, I called him back and it seems he had just written a check 10 minutes before the call so I feel pretty good that that I don,t have to worry? If anyone thinks I should worry, please post it.

Received a phone call from this number. The caller ID identified FIRST DATA.????   Asked me if this was _________________.....I asked who was calling.  He repeated his inquiry as to whether this was ________________.  I said correct...and he then immediately  hung up.   I found this unsettling as I simply answered our company phone.  I am posting this simply for the record.   I hope nothing negative comes as a result of this.?????

They called me saying they were Wells Fargo wanting to confirm information about my Authorize.net merchant services account, which I just opened. They wanted to "confirm" my routing and account number. Yikes! Take these guys down.
