This guy went by the name of Dave Logan. He hit us with this super legit story about his kid being paraplegic but was in India implying stem cell research. He offered a very fair but large salary for very little work in return. $450 a week three hours a day. (4-7pm) (babysitting) he wanted a wheel chair when they arrived so he sent us a check to buy one for $3,025. He told my fiancé to keep $225 as a forward of pay for her troubles. Then some [***] happened with his finance adviser. Blah blah blah sent us a check for $4800 then told her to keep $200 for herself. To make a long story short... Spent a couple hours at my bank today, just for them to tell me I owe them the first check... $3,025. Yay... Syke. This guy sounds smart, proactive, and overall an educated person. Only problem is... He is. Just for the wrong purpose.

I got a message from this number claiming to be a guy named David logan who said he got my number from care.com which to me sounded okay but the fact he texted me instead of writing me on care.com was strange so I looked to see if he had a profile on there but I couldn't find it. So I decided to look his number up and I found this out. After hearing about all the scams people have to deal with I decided to add my message on to this page. Thank you guys for sharing your info it helped me alot. :)

A so called David Logan text me claiming to have gotten my number off of care.com HUGE RED FLAG. I'm creeped out about the fact that he has my number and knows I have an account on care. This is the number he text me from (302) 413-1210

I received the same message from the man "David Logan". After reading his story, I found it a bit suspicious and decided to do some research. Thank You for posting your experience.

I received a text from him as well and then forwarded him my resume.  He responded with a long email about his son in a wheelchair and it all sounds like a scam.  I'm not responding.  Don't even answer his text.

I also received this text message and was starting to email David. He told me the exact thing. Someone needs to put an end to this scam because for someone who is in college and in need for the money he is very convincing. Thank you for the input I appreciate all of the information.

I almost passed on a legitimate job because of this guy but when he started talking about sending me a check to pay for a wheelchair, I got suspicious. Thanks for posting your experience. This guy is a criminal. He texted me from 6197201866 so be aware he has a new number.

I got request for sitting frm him. How does he get my number to text me about nanny position n frm care.com .. if he's not on there?

His offer is too good to be true and that should be the first sign. I never agreed to being his babysitter. He said he would hire me without even an interview or any info about myself. Second Sign. He sent me a giant check and wanted me to deposit and take out the money in 3 different stores. 3rd sign this guy is a time wasting [***].  he called me at this number and since then I have had two other people do the same thing. It has actually been kind of fun responding now that I know what they are up to! Report any new info to the financial fraud enforcement task force. Even more so if you lost money through this scam.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is warning consumers of a dangerous and growing swindle called the “check overpayment” scam, now the fifth most common telemarketing fraud and the fourth most common Internet scam reported.

In the check overpayment scam, the person you are doing business with sends you a check for more than the amount they owe you, and then instructs you to wire the balance back to them. Or, they send a check, and tell you to deposit it, keep part of the amount for your own compensation, and then wire the rest back for one reason or another. The results are the same: the check eventually bounces, and you’re stuck, responsible for the full amount, including what you wired to the scammer.

Typical victims include persons selling something over the Internet, being paid to do work at home, or being sent “advance winnings” in a bogus sweepstakes.

The checks in this scam are fake, but they look real enough to fool most bankers.

The FTC offers the following tips for avoiding the check overpayment scam:

Know who you’re dealing with – independently confirm your buyer’s name, street address, and telephone number.
If you’re selling something over the Internet, say “no” to a check for more than your selling price, no matter how tempting the plea or convincing the story.
There is no legitimate reason for someone who is giving you money to ask you to wire money back.

I feel like a total idiot. I believed him and I am now in the hole 3,000. David Logan is a scam artist a good one too. I should have see all  the red flags He texted me from (619) 784-5020. I wish I had looked further into it. I hope nobody else gets scammed by this horrible guy!!
