Is this a legit co?

Probably not.

These calls are likely not coming from a real bill collector or loan company.  More likely, these calls are coming from cowardly criminals hiding behind a magicJack device plugged in at some God-forsaken corner of the world where there is Internet service.  They simply use a magicJack device and your fear the same way a common thief uses a toy pistol hidden in the pocket of his overcoat to make a bulge that looks like a real gun.

MagicJacks are readily obtainable outside of the United States for about $100 US and can come with up to a year of free calling to the U.S. and Canada.  In India, see, for example,

So it doesn't take long to turn a profit, even if only 1 to 2% of the people they call are stupid enough to believe the scammers.  And India has a high poverty rate, low salaries, and a corrupt government that doesn't cooperate with our government in arresting these scammers.  So to someone in India, or in many other places, for that matter, it may make cold, hard economic sense to invest in a magicJack and randomly call blocks of numbers - particularly blocks known to contain cell phone numbers - in hopes of finding a suitably gullible person to scam.

In addition to the regular reporting channels, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp.  This corporation is a fully-owned subsidiary of the company that sells magicJacks and is in charge of assigning telephone numbers to magicJack devices.  I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.

You should also make a complaint to your state's attorney general's office, letting them know (if true) that the calls appear to be coming from a magicJack overseas, and that YMAX Corporation appears to accept subpoenas from government law enforcement for information that might be used to identify the scammers and at least shut them down.

302-683-1403 is a fake fast cash company

Called me over 20 times within a six hour period.  Someone with a foreign accent would leave a message saying that "I was approved for a loan of $4000.00 dollars ," Never applied for a loan so I did not call back.

I had applied for a loan and they told me that I needed to proof that I had cash on hand hahaha dumbasses kept asking me for 400 bucks to prove that I had money on hand and then they wanted 400 for a western union haha dumbasses sorry aint getting no money from me how dare they

A call from "the department of legal affairs" and he warns me I'll be in a real mess if I don't call back.  Oooooh, now you've got me worried.  I didn't even  listen to the rest of the message.  Strong accent, and the call happened shortly after I received a very similar one from a different state.  Scam of some sort I'm sure.

I received the same message today 12/18/14.  I could barely understand him.  I think I will call him back right now--NOT!

A call from the department of legal affairs, about a matter? an indian accent

Called saying I owed over 2000 to the IRS AND THAT IF NOW PAID I was going to jail and I had to go to a 7/11 and load up some card.

I actually do taxes and this is not the way the IRS collects money.

He completed the call saying I will make sure you go to jail!!!

I just got the call too. Indian accent aswell. He also insisted that my 2009 taxes were done wrong. He said that I had been served in person last month and that no one was home. He also said that they had sent me 4 letters with no response. He got mad when I asked him to give me more information from the form I filed in 2009. He said I was going to jail and that I had a warrant for my arrest. I told him that was fine and hungup. There were two guys.

yeah,ireally got scammed. i lost alot of money .they said i would go to jail and possibly spend 6 months in jail and i needed to go and get a card from cvs or somewhere else. i guess i was stupid but i did not want to lose my child and go to jail .i guess being alone that night and i have been under pressure to get my child christmas, that i paniced. please don't look down on me and think that i was a stupid person for not beliving that someone could do this especially during the hoildays,but i guess that they can .

I'm an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (inactive).  IRS does not file lawsuits.   Legal matters involving the courts are handled by the DOJ.  But most tax disputes are civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  Any determination pertaining to tax liability is subject to appeal by the taxpayer.   IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes.   If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.  Nobody is prosecuted for ordinary errors in filing taxes like these scammers always say.

Be ware and take care.  These scammers have hit you once and they might think you are vulnerable to other scams as well.
