This is a scam trying to make you believe you owe money. The message states that the person is Steve calling about an enforcement action by the U.S. Treasury. The recording goes on to state that you have to call them and ignoring the call could bring you before a magistrate judge for a federal criminal offense. This is a SCAM. The U.S. Treasury department, nor the IRS, ever contacts people by phone with a message like this. Do not call the number back or talk to anyone who claims this. If you truly are concerned, call the U.S. Treasury or IRS directly. You can find out more about scams on the Federal Trade Commission's website: www.ftc.gov

I just received the same robocall from "Steve Martin" regarding some sort of US Gov't criminal action, etc. etc.  I agree with Chris, he sure didn't sound like THE or even A Steve Martin.  I wish these people could be hunted down.

Yes, it is a scam. I called back knowing it was a fake (a woman with an accent answered "hello") and didn't give her a chance to say anything else, just told her that I knew they were running a scam and was going to report them to the police and hung up. I wish these calls would stop and these people could be prosecuted.

They've called 3 times so far today.  Same robo call from Steve Martin threatening legal action on behalf of the government.  Heavy Hindu Indian accent.  They called about 6 months ago for about three days and stopped.  Last time it was the same people claiming to be from the IRS.  The IRS does NOT call to make contact.  They send letters with the proper references to your account.  These scammers have been operating now for a couple of years and they look for people with foreign sounding last names that may not understand that they're crooks.  They then demand money to be wired to them or for a credit card number or they say they will send the police to arrest you.  Just a lot of bull and a waste of time.  I wish that some agency would spend a little of our tax money and track these jerks down and put some cuffs on them.

I had some fun and called it using an anonymous number. He had a thick [***] accent. Clearly reading from a script. Gave him a fake phone number to look up my account and surprisingly said he couldn't find "me" then without missing a beat said I made an error filing my taxes and owed $6,350. I messed around with him for 15 or so minutes and he figured I was playing him and hung up.

Received a message from this number. Steve said we owed money and they were going to file a federal class action against us. That is what I could understand.  He did not speak English well. Did not return his call.

Same as all the others.  The IRS was going forward with a lawsuit.  Heavy, heavy Indian accent.  Can you imagine doing this to people?  What a loser.

Oh my...filed fraudulent tax return for 2011!  Someone is coming to get me and lock me up.   Told this idiot I never received any letters from the IRS but he told me someone in my family misplaced them.  As soon as he hung up paperwork would be filed to have me arrested.  Told them they need to bring me copies of the original letters sent to me and proof where I filed the fraudulent returns, and I would have my accountant at my home to greet them when they arrived.  He finally became tired of my insistence of seeing the evidence and finally he hung up.  This is really bad because my 86 year old mother may have believed this scam.
