- Scott BMaxim magazine started coming to the house several months ago. I did not subscribe to it and have never been sent a bill for the issues. I figured a buddy of mine got it for me. Then about a week ago the #303-922-9710 they started calling. Usually one time a day in the morning. Today multiple calls. Never would leave a message. Today the wife decided to check the number on the net and found this forum, and read a post about Maxim magazine. She put two and two together and called Maxim. She told me that Maxim was helpful but they could not tell her exactly who had paid for the magazine. My subscription was good until December of 2010. The wife went ahead and canceled the subscription. Then shortly after I got home from work today they called again and I answered. The guy asked for me and said that he could lower my monthly rate to Maxim. I told that that sounded great. Of course the guy had no idea that I had been reading the posts here. I was then transferred to a supervisor who wanted to confirm my information. He had my name and address correct( would love to know how they got that info, I could have been a random selection from the telephone book who knows) Then he wanted to confirm my credit card number. At that point I let him know that I knew about the scam that they were running. He claimed to be legit and I let him know that Maxim told us that this was most likely a scam. He insisted that it was not a scam and all the posts here were just biter people that did not like the service that they had received and that his company was a member of the better business bureau. At that I point I told them not to call anymore and that I filling a complaint at the donotcall.gov and That If they did call again I would contact the Kansas Attorney General and BBB and then hung up. Will keep you posted if they call back.

- TD replies to BlinkenLightsI just received a call from this number and no one said anything. Most cell phones have a "block caller" function. Try it.
- TheDonkA women just called me from 303-922-9710 about some magazine subscriptions specifically Maxim. I received a free subscription but had cancelled about a month ago because I've been receiving these calls from a number of companies. This one calls themselves "The credit department" a subsequent company went by the name "your magazine publisher." When I asked about the specific name of the company they actually said were "Your Magazine Publisher Inc." Which I find amusing. Whatever you do don't accept the terms and never say "Yes" on the phone. The way this works is they get you to sign up for in this case $2.99 a week for 60 months. They then charge your credit card for the $717+ dollars up front. They also talk fast and word their language so you can end up agreeing without knowing what you agreed to. My advice is to just hang-up and keep track of who called, when and the details. These people are scum! Watch your credit card statements as well.

- Julia D replies to deleted postAccording to Qwest this number was owned by a company called Reader's Source and NOT the Hooks...Apparently Qwest is run by [***] and Dex follows along. They made an error when publishing the information and now are pointing fingers at each other as the company at fault claiming it will take up to 5 weeks for the information to be corrected. I'd appreciate it if junior detectives like you would do a little more research than looking up a "reverse" number before plastering someone's personal information and slandering them online. My husband and I have also contacted the police and will press charges against whomever is the ignorant s.o.b. sending us death threats via mail...I hope you and the others on this site like you one day feel what it is like to have an indent theft type situation. Maybe then you will think about what you are doing before choosing to act irresponsibly.
As for "Not Michael" and the other blue icon posters of this 800notes site, I fully understand that you feel the law is on your side and allowing my personal information to be listed several times is well within your rights. However you are contributing to this problem and if the [***] sending me death threats actually follows through your site will be listed in the civil suit along with Qwest and Dex. - striderSupposedly "Denver CO"

- IdahoI've gotten three calls (so far) from this number - the first I answered, he asked me about an X-rated magazine we had received, not ordered, which we had cancelled - we shouldn't have had to bother! I told him we had canceled it because we hadn't ordered it, and he asked if we wanted any others!! I told him never to call us again - and yet, he's called twice more, each about 2-3 hours apart. Will it ever stop??

- Nemesis| 1 replyI have ordered many subscriptions through e-rewards, including Maxim. I think e-rewards sold our contact information. I don't think I gave the magazines my telephone number. Anyway, I've since cancelled my e-rewards account.

- John CrichtonI got a "free" subscription to Maxim by filling out an online survey by www.freebizmag.com. Then 303-922-9710 started constantly calling me. I never gave them my phone number, only a mailing address to send Maxim. How did these scammers get my home phone number? It's unlisted!
ps- I've been on the Do Not Call list for years. I filed complaints against 303-922-9710 with both the FCC and the FTC.- Caller: New Readers Service

- Bill Clay replies to Bill ClayI'm a [***] and would like to apologize for my ignorance. After further research by my 12 year old (who is ther only person in this house educated enough to figure out how to use the internet's vast resources for research) I have confirmed that the Hooks are not involved with this scam.
Promo Readers is a company located in Lakewood, CO and they are the owners of 303-922-9710. Promo Readers is affiliated with New Reader Service Inc. and somehow this phone number was listed to the Hooks in error. Not sure if it was more fraud on the part of Promo Readers, or an error by Qwest but I guess this backwoods redneck just learned a lesson in jumping to the first conclusion. - GrannyI received multiple calls from this number and did not answer until I read the comments here. I answered and was told that magazine was going to go up in price and that I should renew now. I told them I had recently renewed it and they insisted I could save money by renewing now. I felt it was a scam because I was scammed before on a magazine renewal. I asked what the charge would be and they told me and said I would also get a free subscription to another magazine. I said OK and they asked for my credit card number. I told her to just send me an invoice. She put her supervisor on the phone and she wanted my card number. I said I needed an invoice. The invoice came from Crown Marketing Inc. I looked that name up on line and didn't find anything re. magazines. I called my magazine company and was told Crown Marketing was not in their book of companies they use. She said they will investigate it and that people getting calls from them should report them to the Better Business Bureau.
