They are a collection agency for medical bills.  While they are an independent company, they are based at Charleston Area Medical Center (hence, the CAMC on the billing).  You can contact the original creditor, if you know who they are collecting for, and verify they have placed the account with this agency.  I verified one and it had been placed with them.  When I called back, once I verified identity, they were quite pleasant and worked out a payment plan.

A collection agency, passing themselves off as Charleston Area Medical Center, called my house for a person who does not live here. I do not want any more of these calls.

Its a debt collector for CAMC for your unpaid hospital bills. Just call them back and arrange a payment plan. Not hard people. No wonder the costs of things in the hospital are so damn high. Because idiots like you wont pay your damn bills. Just remember it hurts your credit now!

They called me this morning, without identifying themselves, and first-off, "for security purposes," requested my date of birth and Social Security number.  When I said I don't know who you are so I'm not giving you that information, the caller still didn't identify herself.  She just said she was following up on a written communication I'd been sent recently and that was the end of the conversation.  I see by the foregoing comments that this phone number is listed for a collection agency for Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and I do have unpaid hospital and other medical bills.  It's legitimate for them to attempt to collect the debt.  However, this practice of attempting to surprise identifying information such as date of birth and Social Security number out of a debtor who might not be too fast on their feet is unconscionable.  I intend to write to Healthcare Financial Services, and to their client, the Charleston Area Medical Center, and urge that their callers identify themselves before requesting information that is so often employed for purposes of identity theft.  I will also report their conduct to our state Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.  There are laws that govern debt collection.

That has nothing to do with the cost of health care in hospitals. I have good insurance that has paid over a million dollars to hospitals for me alone, so I don't think my $200 is gonna make or break them. They just need to accept what the insurance pays so that we can go on about our lives because they (hospital staff and doctors) seem to be living pretty high on the hog without my few out of pocket dollars! Don't get me wrong, I am extremely thankful for all they do and have done for me but let's not put us into depression or drive us insane to collect a couple measly bucks!
