TAXES SCAM CALL!

Caller-ID 315-307-7489 called my cell phone at 07:00am (pacific) today. We never answer blocked or unrecognized caller-id calls so I let it go to voicemail. Upon retrieving the voicemail that was left, the message starts in the middle of a sentence. Apparently, they didn't wait for the beep. That's probably because it was a robotic voice, obviously computer generated or made to sound so. The message starts in the middle of sentence with the part I got to hear saying, "....your IRS tax audit. We have been trying to reach you via US mail and have had no response from you. Do not delay. Please call 315-307-7489. This is important, and you do not want to ignore this message or tax penalties may soon be assessed. I'll repeat that number, it is 315-307-7489. Please call back immediately to avoid tax fines, liens, and other possible penalties. Thank you."

We never got nor get squat from the IRS in the US mail. Our taxes are almost simple enough for a 1040-EZ, but they're prepared by a professional anyway because we are homeowners and do itemize (legitimately!), we never ever cheat on them nor ever would, and the knuckleheads called my cell phone which is never ever given to anyone but friends, work and family. Certainly not to the IRS -- we have a home landline that goes on all forms, on all applications, and all tax filings and/or any other official forms of each and every kind we encounter.

IRS SCAM!  Got 2 calls on 3/2/16 at 8:29 and 9:50 a.m.MST.  Didn't pick up as called ID said "Syracuse, NY" and the no. (I never pick up my landline unless I recognize the name/no.)  Left msgs. both times, similar to the one Tommy got.  Robotic voice ID'd itself as "Division of Internal Revenue, IRS".  We've tried reaching you at your mailing address and you haven't responded.  "Do not attempt to disregard or ignore this msg. as the issue at hand is urgent and time sensitive". Then said call the "Audit Division" and repeated the number twice.

I too have never received anything in the mail, and have my taxes prepared by a CPA.  According to IRS, they never call about owed taxes; they will always send mail first.  IRS is aware of the many similar scams & says if you get a call like this, don't answer or hang up!  (I live in an area w/many seniors & our local Sheriff's Dept. Scam Squad is constantly warning people about this.)  Per IRS online advice, I notified the DOJ's Inspector General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission.

Got same call,and message. Scam!! File through professional, no frills,never get notices or mail from IRS.

same call from this idiot. he really needs to get a life! As if the IRS calls and warns people they will be audited. He really needs a college education instead of one that is gonna land him in the pen.

Got this same type of call today.  I knew it was a fraud right away plus I don't answer my phone for unknown numbers.

Got a similar call from 5125411925 (Austin, TX). Starts at the end of a sentence "for the recipient" and then the robot says his name is Jeff Morgan from the IRS and they've attempted to reach me via mail (untrue) and pretty much the same as everyone else has said. Jerks

Got the same call as everyone else stating the call is "for the recipient" and identifying Jeff Morgan from the IRS.  Supposedly calling about audit letters I've not responded to. Have had no attempts by IRS to reach me via mail on any such topic. (I get other letters from them about some money owed, but nothing about an audit.)

"IRS and this call is in regards to your tax audit. We have tried reaching you at your mailing address but never heard back from you. So kindly return the call on our audit department at 315-307-7489. I repeat it's 315-307-7489. Do not attempt to disregard or ignore this message. The issue at hand is urgent and time sensitive. Thank you and have a good day."
