First call was woman with eastern european ( my guess Rumanian or Moldavian ) accent. Asked if I was Bert. Answered yes. Said her name was Lina ??? From the IRS. I had not filed my taxes over 12 and 13 correctly so a criminal case was filed against me. Did I have a criminal attorney. She then broke off. I realized it was a scam since Bert is not my full first name, while that is the only one the IRS knows. They do not know I use Bert in daily life. Dialed * 69 and got the last number. It was 313 567 4410. Dialed the number, got man with same accent. He knew immediately who I was. Strange where normally you are connected 5 times or more and have to give and spell your name. He asked me who did my taxes. Me, accountant or HR Block. I told him that if he was from the IRS and could see that there was something wrong with my filing he would already know who prepared it. This made him very angry and he told me that I would be arrested within 30 minutes. Then he hung up. I googled the number and arrived on this site. I did inform the local police who told me they got a lot of complaints. Maybe I will do a denial of service attack on their number. Sounds like fun.

Yesterday, I received the same call with the same case number....then today, I received a call from the same number and same voice, but this time they used a different name - Tina Olson.  No one who is legit ends the call with, "All I can do is wish you a happy life as law enforcement from your state will soon be at your doorstep"...

    IRS GRAUD ALERT
I received several phone calls from this number: 202- 803-4955. The guy left me a voicemail today (April 13, 2015). This creep identifies himself as Alex Watson, with the IRS Legal Department (Pin#: 3H94436). He informed me that the IRS had filed some kind of a law suit against me ( it is difficult to understand this moron due to his heavy accent ), and threatened me that if I or my attorney did not get back to him I would land up in jail right away. He left me a phone number to call: 619-378-0051. I called this number several times out of curiosity, but the line remained busy. I am surprised that this fraud has been doing this to many others, as well. Has anyone reported this guy to the right authorities, such as the IRS? He should be caught and deported back to wherever the h**l he came from.

The caller was identified as ALEX WATSON Phone#: 202-803-4955

I received the exact same message and case number by voice mail today.  "This is in reference to a criminal lawsuit file again see you. Your case number is CH94436. The moment you receive this message I need you or your retained attorney off records to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My phone number is 315-567-4410. Do not disregard this message and do return the call now. If you don't return the call and I don't deal from your attorney either then the only thing I can do is wish you a good luck as the situation unfolds on you."

I called them back and told them I was going to report them to the authorities.  Have fun with that Karma while I'm working my 1 of 3 jobs as they are enjoying the spread of harassment.  Amazing what scum people there are out there.

I had this scam but with a different phone number.  I didn't think to google the case number and was freaking out wondering what in the heck I have done!  I had my husband look into it and through google and found you guys.  What a stupid scam.  Way to make people paranoid and prey on the innocent.

They said I could receive a $9000 grant from the state if I were to pay them $300 .! Hahaha! When I didn't understand her and was questioning what she was saying (didn't understand the nonsense concept), she yelled in her Asian accent "YOU HAVE TO PAY!" Hahaha! What a f-ing joke! She huge up on me so I was a jerk and called back for her to say "if you think it scam, stop calling here! Stop calling!!" I kept asking for a manager and she said 1st that there was no manager, then she wasn't going to transfer me to a manager, then She was the manager .. She then hung up on me and I tried to call back again like an [***] and she keeps disconnecting my call. Lol ... Soooooo, am I not qualified for the $9000 anymore?? Hahaha! Scam artists. Smh

There is an old and on going scam to steal your money and ID.
You get a call or a letter claiming the government is giving away grant money and you qualify!!!!   <---It is a scam!
You are instructed to call a number or visit a website, where you will be asked for credit card info, bank account info, and personal ID info.
They will claim to handle the grant claim for a small fee, or that you must pay taxes on the grant in advance.
You may be instructed to visit a local Walmart, Walgreen, or some store that sells pre-paid credit cards or money cards (common types are called Green-Dot, MoneyPak, and such) or they may say you need to wire transfer cash via Western Union, MoneyGram, or such. The reason they ask you to use these type of money services is because once the transfer is complete, there is no way for you to recover the money you sent.

The only legitimate avenue for government grants is through www.grants.gov which is the official US government web site for grants.
    From their FAQ concerning fraud:
    http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/support/general-support/grant-fraud.html

    Please note the following:
No government grant-making agency will make phone calls; send email or letters to solicit money or personal banking information from a potential grant recipient.
There are no processing fees for federal grants.
Federal grants are not issued for personal use, but are intended for institutions and non-profits to carry out projects with a public purpose.
Know who you're dealing with on the web.  Scam artists will often post a website with a name similar to a legitimate site.
If you have provided personal banking information to anyone claiming to be associated with a Federal grant agency, call your bank immediately to prevent unauthorized access to your account.

If you receive a call, mail, email, FAX, or any other form of communication soliciting you for a grant, STOP.
    It is a scam.
    Report it to the FTC:
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0113-government-grant-scams

File a complaint with the FTC. If you think you may have been a victim of a government grant scam, file a complaint with the FTC online https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ , or call toll-free, 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261. The FTC enters Internet, telemarketing, identity theft, and other fraud-related complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure online database available to hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.
