I received a call today from someone claiming to be from Microsoft support
wanting to access my computer and then charge me for the service ,
when asked for my card Details I became suspicious and did not give them
they then called again claiming to be from the accounts department and tried to get my card number from me
I still would not give any information

I called Microsoft and they confirmed that the services that these people were offering are not Microsoft services and they had no knowledge of this number .

This is obviously a con and they are using this number to commit their crimes .

I just received a call from this number claiming to be calling from "Windows"; he said my computer had been reporting errors and there was likely malware/adware or something like that.  Asked me to go to www.support.me and enter a 5 digit code - as this appeared to be a remote login I got suspicious.  A search turned up a couple of claims that this number had been used for scams, and when I asked him about that he got angry and started yelling.  I promptly hung up.

Call display was blocked, he gave this number when I asked if I could call back (but then kept talking); also said his name was "Charlie Robinson", but had a strong east Indian accent.

I received a call on January 17, 2011, supposedly from Microsoft.. A person with a stong accent informed me that my computer had a lot of really "bad and malicious" errors, or something to this effect.
I was in a hurry and had to be somewhere and was just at the point of leaving. Also went to www.support.me and entered a 6 digit number.  The screen was full of red and yellow warnings!!
I said I had no time and said I would call him (Charlie) the next day.  My computer techie friend came over and checked my PC and said that everything was fine.  When "Charlie" called back and talked to my friend, who talked some relevant computer techie talk, Charlie immmediately hung up. Never got to the credit card part.  I would NEVER give my credit card # to anyone calling me with info that I didn't ask for.

Same as above. Call from Nick at Windows support. I went along for awhile, he had me go to the event viewer. When I started to ask questions he said he was going to put me through to his supervisor. I waited and then hung up.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

Same as other folks' reports here, saying they were from Windows security or something. Fellow with strong accent. Called two days in a row. I did exactly what me 15 Feb 2011 from Ottawa did. Asked what company they were from and what their phone number was. He said to ask for Dave. Meanwhile I could hear several other folks in the background at their end of the line talking about, "it will only cost $$$..." Suppose they also might be trying to get people to buy malware software that would harm actually let them access your personal information. I did reported this to our internet service provider. Maybe they can send out a warning to their customers to let them know this is going on.

I received the same call as everyone else.  My caller was 'Charlie'.  My call display showed UNKNOWN CALLER but he gave me the phone number anyways.  I called back on this number (321-280-6757) and they answered with 'Windows Service Department'.  Still highly suspicious, I just hung up.
Is there no way the Florida police could check into this number and put a stop to this obvious scam?

This is a total scam and they almost 'got me'; fortunately I was too busy to get on the computer when they called, as they requested, so that they could 'show me where my corrupted/infected files were' and 'what the error messages were' that they (at "Windows Helpline") were supposedly receiving frm my computer.
There were a couple of 'red flags' which I should have paid more attention to: one was that they were insinuating that AVG virus protection was 'no good'; 2ndly, they said I 'should have been having computer problems for the last 15 days' - I have had no problems -  and also, the guy who phoned me had a very strong foreign accent, yet said his name was "Aaron Carter".... This is the number he told me to call him back on. I got off by saying I was too busy to log onto my computer but that I'd call him back later when my husband got home.
I'm a bit upset that Windows/Microsoft has not put out a warning about this scam when they are being impersonated by some con artists who are targetting their  clients.
I tried to contact Microsoft,  but could not find any email address for their head offices in Canada, nor could I leave a message on their voice mail system.
If anyone else can  contact Microsoft Canada so they can warn their users, please do so.

Re. "could not find any email address for their head offices in Canada," I simply googled "microsoft canada website" which returned http://www.microsoft.com/en/ca/default.aspx as the top link and if you go there and click on the "Contact Us" link at the top right corner of that page, you'll see email, live chat and call contact info. Yes, putting up a big warning banner on the home page will help but let me predict that will never happen. You're not the first person to have thought about complaining to Microsoft and you won't be the last.
